See also the two pages of Double Cross, the biography on Sam Giancana written by his brother and godson. It says on page 416 that the list of weapons aimed at Castro included a cancer-producing injectable agent.
Some of the causes of death listed appear on the surface to be natural.
Keep in mind that the CIA developed methods to "make it look like an
accident". This was documented through the testimony of CIA technicians
to the Church committee who told of TWEP technology (Termination With
Extreme Prejudice) in 1975. These methods are designed to not be detected in postmortem examinations. I have a couple of exerpts of declassified CIA documents to demonstrate the case. One of the techniques involves the injection of cancer cells, heart attack inducement, as well as non-chemical techniques which require no special equipment. Based on the strange circumstances of Jack Ruby's death in prison (he died from lung cancer but the cancer cells were not the type that originate in the respiratory system). Ruby wrote notes and spoke to several people saying that jfk was killed by a conspiracy and that he had been maneuvered into killing Oswald who was a fall guy. He claimed to have been injected with cancer cells when treated with shots for a cold. He died just before he was to testify in Congress. He had told congressional investigators that he wanted to talk but he needed protection.
Haslam's "Dr. Mary's Monkey" is neither about the events in Dallas, nor DC. No, his story resides right square in the middle of New Orleans. We've all heard (and some have experienced) the stereotypes related to New Orleans and its mysterious and even corrupt and colorful past. Well Haslam's book and credibility therein benefits tremendously from his actually being raised and working IN New Orleans. Not just that, but his father worked on the outer edges of the circles of medical community power in which this plot resides. That's right, Haslam's perspective is as a curious outsider whose point of view is from just outside the very walls that contained one of the more evil perversions of scientific experiment. For those who have studied the abhorrent tests and applications of the Nazis, the findings of this book will hit very close to home -- which for anyone who knows of Operation Paperclip, unfortunately makes total sense.
Dr. Mary Sherman was by all accounts a brilliant cancer researcher, who when brought into a scientific circle that also included such New Orleans legends as Dr. Alton Ochsner, David Ferrie (yes, THAT David Ferrie), Lee Harvey Oswald, the shadowy Judyth Vary Baker and the results and aims of medical experiments they were all involved in, what you get is one of the more striking conspiracies-within-a-conspiracy you'll ever study. This mixed/matched team's experiments involving mice, monkeys and their effect on the polio inoculations, literally impacted tens of millions worldwide. Trust me, you will not be disappointed by the depth and thoughtfulness incorporated in Haslam's research and conclusions.
One thing worth noting about the overall style in which "Dr. Mary's Monkey" was written, is just how easily Haslam takes medical jargon and equipment terms and explains them. I found the book to be an easy read, despite the complicated web among the people involved, their actions as well as the medical terms and results. This could have been an overly complicated and dry/boring read, but instead Haslam's style made it one of the better JFK-related books I've ever been fortunate enough to take-in.
