More to the point, this book carries the reader away to magical, mystical places in short stories that evoke smiles, questions, and fond memories of the innocence of youth. Read this with your kids - or save it for yourself - either way, you will be entertained.
The first story is about a plan two friends devise to get back at J.J., the school bully. They dare him to meet them behind a spooky crypt and he goes ahead but something eerily, thought-provoking occurs that night that will change the lives of all those involved forever.
The second story is about a doll that is given to a boy by his Magician Uncle. The toy with the painted face is much more than a toy and what happens next is truly, and unbelievably spooky
Gifford's next story takes us on one's boy suspenseful journey of what goes bump in the night. Night after night he ventures down the stairs, trying to uncover the dark secrets that exist in the shadows and in the mysterious sounds of his home after dark. This story is one I'm sure most of us can relate to because we have at one time or another, wondered about the ghostly activities that go on after the midnight hour in our very own homes.
The fourth story is my personal favorite because it slowly builds up to the anticipation of its climax. It takes place in a stately old house, and within the walls of this house occurs a story that is disturbing and haunting. We are told from the beginning of this story that "youth fades quicker than you realize." Gifford plays with the nuances of language and delivers to us a thrilling story.
The remainder of P.S. Gifford's stories entertain us, indulge us and scare us in the same tradition as the first four stories. They embody elements of mystery, horror and magic as in the case of the final story. An aging scientist drinks a magic potion and the outcome is quite surprising. Is it an experiment gone sour? Quite the opposite. This is an extraordinary science experiment, and a lesson on what is more than meets the eye...
P.S. Gifford's, book, Dr. Offig, is not a modern-day medley of trash and gore. It is spooky, spell-binding, and simply sensational!
Paperback 176 Pages

Lookout Potter and Snicket, Dr. Offig is going to teach you something new!!!!
An absolute must read! Great for a gift or summer reading for the kids!!!!
Can't wait for Volume 2!!!
The good doctor has collected many a strange tale, ranging from the truly harrowing, the heartwarming, to the fun and goose-pimply. The rub is that you're never sure which it will be until you dive into the story. Be assured that minds will be engaged, and boundaries prodded with a selection of antiquated scientific instruments.
Any avid reader of classic children's literature will delight in the book's nostalgic tone. From the Dahl-esque shenanigans of "Johnny Jackson's School Dare", to the spooky Victorian leanings of "I've found you!", and a story that echoes the Children Of Green Knowe with a sinister twist: "Beware of Jack." Strange finds at flea-market stalls, colourful eccentrics, ghosts, giant bugs, magic, pranks gone awry; all can be found here.
What are you waiting for? Let Dr. Offig personally guide you through his master-class of Offigology 101. You might not overcome your fear of the dark, but you'll be all the more wiser for it.
Twisting, hilarious, scary and downright wonderful; you'll certainly have Goosebumps but with Dr. Offig at the lecturn - you will have SO much more!
