The sun's still not shining and it's too wet to play.
So don't think this movie will help save the day.
What a mess! What a shame that's it's come down to this,
A gigantic hairball! A huge movie miss!
I thought for a moment it was Powers in drag.
Though not in a dress. In a cat suitish bag!
Or maybe a remake of THE WIZARD OF OZ?
The Cowardly Lion in kitty cat paws?
No! No! It's just rubbish, the worst of the sort!
To take a great classic and its story abort.
And replace it with nonsense that just doesn't fly.
If Seuss were still here I am sure he would die.
His story, his concepts all blasted...oh well,
Into small smithereens. It won't work. It won't sell!
I guess that some think that they'll just tag the title
To a movie so bad that it's up in the nightle!
Oh, yes, they made money but in the end, it is true,
They just couldn't fool us, not me and not you!
Just read the book to the kiddies, indeed.
Just watch the cartoons that this movie exceed.
Just forget about this one and hope there won't be
More movies like this that we won't have to see.

I hated this film because it was entirely out of character with the real Dr. Seuss. It should be purely fun and innocent. Instead it has a pornographic magazine joke which leads to the cats hat elongating as though it were an erection. I don't recall erection jokes in the original books do you? There is a scene in which the cat and the kids have just retrieved their missing dog and are being chased by an angry neighbor.. they escape through a magical doorway on the street which leads to a firemans pole which takes them "underground" to a dance club/rave scene. Here the cat is distracted by a beautiful slightly slutty girl, who just so happens to be played by Paris Hilton. Now it doesn't take a genius to see what is being suggested here. Everyone knows that ravers and ecstasy users often make connections between their drug use and Dr. Seuss and the "underground". They even wear Dr. Seuss hats. And the cat even loses his own hat among the many other hats at the rave which I don't think was just a coincidence. Considering that Dr. Seuss books are for really young impressionable kids and they were intended to influence them with the idea of keeping their imagination and holding on to the feeling that they are worthwhile and good, what exactly is Mike Myers saying here? That sex, drugs and dancing at an expensive raver club is the place where real happiness exists? That by hanging out in a drug/raver scene you'll be one of the beautiful barby doll people like Paris Hilton? That you'll be surrounded by all the good imaginative beautiful people and free of all the crazy angry psycho people in the real world?
I'm no prude when it comes to wordly things, but Dr. Seuss was all about impressing kids.. and so this film has to be examined as to how it's going to impress kids. It's not good.

I would not recommend this for children. Lots of poor language...or moreso the fill-in-the-blank game that I think kids can figure out. Poor taste. Weird too, like what I imagine an LSD trip would be like. My kids instantly got a bad feeling watching it.

There are jokes and questionable stuff the adults will get.

There are some jokes and questionable stuff older kids may get but some is above their understanding.

Then for the younger kids (I have a 2.5 year-old) they will get none of the questionable material but loved the colors and action and silliness of the cat.

This is suppose to be a children's movie? Oh my word this movie is horrible!!!!! There is so much adult humor in this movie from refrencing boners to almost cursing that it is not for children at all! I am so shocked that they ruined a wonderful story. My kids and I had never saw this movie so we rented it on Amazon and I am really sorry I did. Dr. Seuss's books are something I loved and they have tarnished his name with this movie. Please do not allow your young children to watch this movie.

How many dollars less would this movie have made if they had omitted all the sexual and body function-related jokes??? This is an adult movie but only if you're immature.
The humor is crude and the movie just keeps on pumping the crude jokes out. I'm no prude but when it's a Dr. Suess movie, it shouldn't be crude jokes. Why insist? Why can't Myers be in ONE that doesn't talk to kids about how hot their mother is?
If mediocre body odor humor makes you laugh, you'll roll in the aisles. I know that Dr. Suess is rolling in his grave.
    Stay away.

We love this movie so much! Why it got poorly rated we have no clue. I mean it's okay for kids, because the perverted jokes kids won't get, right? It's a cute movie and we just had to get it! Disc came clean with not even a scratch!

An entertaining movie, not uproaringly funny but many of the lines are clever. I rented it for some kids my wife and I were babysitting and they liked it but didn't hardly laugh. However they did watch the whole thing and said they liked it, I could tell they were not bored. I thought Alec Baldwin did a good job as usual. He is a good actor even though outside of acting he appears as if he can be difficult. Mike Myers does a fine job too. I thought the relationship between the two kids was funny.
