Short review for anyone familiar with the series: The game is very similar to Origins. I have notice there is a ton of gameplay for this game. The maps are really huge. Tons of fun and worth getting this game!

Anyone not familiar: This game can be very long and sometimes a tad boring with a bunch of dialog added. It's a slow pace if you want to fully explore and do the side missions. It can be fast with full of action if you only spend the time on the main story mission.

Purpose of review:

BUT!!!! I don't recommend the Deluxe Edition. The extra stuff is not worth it at all. They become useless after level 5-6. Also it is not full gear. Just a chest piece and 1-2 weapons for your own Character. Would of been cool to get 1 weapon type of each to apply to each of your party members to use.

Anyways, grab this game but just the regular version.

Unlike many gamers who get the game and try to "beat it" in the first few hours, I like to just wander about and see the world that has been created. If that is your thing, you will love this. It is breathtaking. As I play, I will update on the actual adventures, but this game already has me comparing it to Skyrim and it wins handily. After the disappointment of "DA2" I think they are back on track with this franchise.

Considering the prices these days, you want something that will give you weeks of enjoyment, not hours. This fits the bill handily. To put it in perspective, I was a D & D geek in the 70s. This was little more than a dream way back then. Since I am not an MMORPG player (I just can't relate to the foul-mouthed and often rude youngsters), I need games I can play alone that will be engaging. This one promises to take up a lot of my spare time...as well as some of my not-so-spare time.

I want to start off by saying that I did not play Dragon Age: Origins and therefore cannot compare the two. I did, however, play Dragon Age 2, but I've heard/read that it was a step back in the franchise. I'm going to use that as my basis for comparisons if I need to make any.
At the time of this review, I have nearly completed the game.

Combat: 7/10
You can count me as someone who thoroughly enjoyed the combat system in DA2. I enjoyed the focus on the 3rd person, hand-to-hand combat style that it offered. Dragon Age: Inquisition took a small step back in that regard, in my personal opinion. It seems to have been stripped down so that players use the combat tactic view to plan and initiate attacks, which I will get to later. As far as the player-controlled hacking and slashing, I find it quite bare bones. The only option you have, other than ability/spells, is a basic attack. There is no heavy attack, there is no light attack, there is no area attack. You hold down RT and that's it. Now, you can mix it up a little bit with the use of your abilities but even then, it's quite simple. There is no button for blocking, dodging, or rolling, but those abilities must be unlocked via the ability tree(s).The "targeting" system, which locks onto an enemy by clicking the right stick, needs tweaking. All it does is zoom in your combat view. I thought that it would lock on an enemy until he was dead but it works the same as your normal combat view. If you look towards someone else, or knock the enemy down, it's likely to target a new enemy and leave your back turned to the one right next to you.
Now, to the combat tactic view, which is how you're supposed to play most battles. I read that this was only available for the PC version of DA:O and they brought it back from there.

this game is essentially WOW on console.
I am a die-hard fan of all dragonage games and DLC. I have played every single one more times than anyone should ><
this one is quite different, it is WOW for console. 'collect 22 shards' or 'kill 10 ram, collect meat', etc.
doesn't play like the games i love.

no longer is there a healing class. you heal with potion and have spells like 'barrier' to prevent damage rather than recover from it. there is a revive spell at later levels, but you can also review by approaching a downed character and holding 'a' which is new.

its just different from what i was hoping for.

still good so far.

I've played DA 1 & 2. DA-I is an improvement over DA 2 but not as "fun" to play as the first DA. I put in about 160hours of game play, building up my character to L21 before completing the main quest. As others have mentioned DA-I is much more of an open world than its predecessors, in fact it's huge. Also the graphics are very good but the facial rendering, at least on the Xbox One, is not as good as I would have expected. Lastly, the story telling is very good, much improved over DA 2. The downsides of DA-I:

- the previous game import via The Keep did not work correctly and many of my previous game decisions were not recognized. This was hugely disappointing. Also, while you can (supposedly) make changes via The Keep and import those into your game it requires you to start a new game in DA-I for those changes to be recognized. And unfortunately there is no way to confirm those changes actually imported correctly until you progress through the game. So while a great idea, it was poorly executed.

- while fast travel to and with in regions is great, there are a few tweaks within Skyhold that could have made it better such as Direct travel points to the War Room and the Undercroft. To reach the War Room, for example, you have to go through four doors in a long hallway. Very puzzling why they did that.

- too many herbs, metals, and schematics make the crafting process overly tedious. Expect to waste a lot of time gathering stuff if you want to upgrade equipment via crafting.
