Paranormal Romance -Dec. 7th, 2010
4 ½ stars
Day of the Dragon is the latest installment in Rebecca York's shifter series. This book deals with a wounded and powerful dragon shifter who finds unexpected love.
Ramsey Gallagher is ~ 2 thousand years old. He is a mighty dragon shifter who has no idea of his heritage. He was found lost in ancient Italy by an elderly couple and adopted. But his life has never been easy. It is now the 21st century and Ramsey is trying to recover from a vicious battle with another dragon shifter from another dimension who tried to take over Earth. After the battle, Ramsey lost his ability to shift and many of his other magical abilities. He deeply mourns the loss and particularly wants to be able to shift again. When he hears of an archaeological find near the spot where he was found lost as a child he is galvanized to talk to the lead archaeologist. Ramsey wants to discover if there is a connection to his missing past and the possibility of a clue to return his powers.
What he finds is a surprisingly attractive female doctor named Madison Dartmoor. But before he can track her down at a conference he discovers her lecture is cut short and she is being abducted. Ramsey saves her and they find a real connection. But someone wants the good doctor and they are willing to kill to get her!
This story had a lot of twists and turns. They travel to the states, Italy, and Peru . The action is non-stop but so is their passion! I liked how this book was centered on the relationship between Madison and Ramsey. Ramsey is troubled by his diminished powers but he can sometimes manipulate people's thoughts (like the Jedi mind trick) and although he does this for Madison's `own good.' That was one section of the story I had a little trouble with.
Madison is spunky and driven and the 2 main characters had a real chemistry but I did feel it was pretty quick that she fell under his spell and trusted him. I think I would have liked a little more resistance from her but who wouldn't be swept away by such a handsome rescuer?! And Ramsey is the real show stopper in this story. I was fascinated by his powers and history. (Would have liked to know more about his past and his secret `Bat Cave' like fortress!) The thrilling action felt a little like an Indiana Jones movie: a lot of adventure, intrigue and good old backstabbing! Definitely 1 of my favs in the series.
High adventure, steamy passion, and a powerful and hunky hero make this an exhilarating read!

In Las Vegas, however that does not prevent him from seeking more information about his unknown heritage. As such he intends to attend a lecture presented by Dr. Madison Dartmoor on her findings in an ancient Italian tomb located near the site where he was found by himself as a small child. However, a nasty assault on the excavation site leads to the presentation being cancelled. While deciding what next Ramsey stops an attack on Madison. He feels a need to keep her safe from her overwhelming enemies who want her dead.
The latest super "Moon" romantic fantasy (see Dragon Moon) looks deep at the good twin after he defeated his bad seed brother as the winner suffers a form of paranormal post traumatic stress disorder with his psychological consequences as nasty as the physical. Yet even with a profound look into the second order effects of the epic sibling battle on Ramsey, Rebecca York provides plenty of action as for the first time he considers risking his heart with Madison, the woman he cherishes more than his soul.
Dr. Madison Dartmoor is set to tell the world of her discovery in Italy, but before she can give her presentation in Las Vegas her team is attacked. Deciding it will be safer for everyone involved to keep her discoveries a secret until they know more she cancels her announcement. Some are unsatisfied with her decision and are going to drag the information out of her any way possible.
Believing Madison may have found part of his history Ramsay follows her and fortuitously saves her from an attempted kidnapping. Madison is caught off guard by her handsome savior and thankful for his assistance. She is determined to end their involvement then but Ramsay has other ideas. Madison and Ramsay begin a journey that will take them to the other side of the world and possibly open their hearts to each other. Danger lurks around every turn but their greatest obstacles may be each other and all the secrets standing between them.
Day of the Dragon is quite the grand adventure. It was like Indiana Jones only better. Rebecca York has created a beautiful world in Day of the Dragon. It is so easy to imagine your surroundings. From the clutches of a gorgeous man, to exploring underground dwellings long forgotten Day of the Dragon catapults you into the action.
Madison and Ramsay have this wonderful chemistry. I could absolutely feel the fervent need between these two. What's great about them is even though they are thrown into this situation and the attraction is acted on pretty quickly they are not claiming their undying love by page fifty. Ms. York makes this couple work for their relationship. Nothing comes easy in Day of the Dragon. I found myself aggravated with Ramsay many times in the beginning. I wanted him to trust Madison, but by the end of the novel this is one of the things that make me like it more. Trust is earned in Day of the Dragon. It makes everything much more satisfying.
Emotion is always important to me when reading a novel and Day of the Dragon has them all. Ramsay's pain at not being able to shift is palpable. His desire to know who, and what, he truly is can be felt and is powerful. He really goes on this incredible journey of self. Ramsay's greatest desires could end up getting the one person who may complete him killed. As I was reading Day of the Dragon, I hoped he would discover what was most important before it was too late.
Tombs are unearthed, hearts uncovered, and betrayals exposed in Day of the Dragon, unleashing a one of a kind, action packed thrill ride that culminates in an outstanding, heart-stopping finish.
