Dragon Lieutenant, Leo Ryan is every woman's dream man and casino hostess, Tee has been dreaming about the two of them together for quite some time. But Leo keeps sending Tee mixed signals. Like a long, intense kiss followed by a warning from Leo that they can never be together. The problem is, although Tee doesn't know it, that Leo is a shape-shifting dragon in need of a mate to restore his waning dragon form to full vigor. Tee doesn't wear his mark, the mark that would signify that Tee is his true mate. If Leo and Tee choose to be together without a mate's mark, Leo dragon will not survive.
Tee is a Paiute Native American who has chosen to live off-reservation in order to earn enough money to improve the reservation's school. Her father is Chief of the tribe. His more traditional views are being challenged by more progressive tribe members. There is growing disagreement between the two factions that could prove dangerous for Tee. Leo vows to protect her.
This book is as satisfying as the first book, "The Luck of the Dragon". The contrast between the glizt and glamour (and excesses) of Las Vegas and the beauty of Tee's desert home is striking. The characters are well-developed. Leo and Tee are engaging. Old secrets test them, enemies plot to destroy them, but they stand strong. The love scenes are believable (and steamy). They are placed thoughtfully within the storyline, not just thrown in to draw your attention away from the lack of storyline as in other books I've read. The plot moves along well and holds the reader's interest. I was never tempted to skip to the end to escape tedious story-telling. I enjoyed reading this book so much, I bought a second copy and gave it as a gift. This book is a winner. I hope you try it.
First, let's address the boss-and-employee trope. I tend to hate this one unless the boss is a woman but Tee does all of the chasing in this one! She is one of my favorite heroines I have read. EVER. She's smart, thoughtful, driven, ambitious, spiritual, a good friend, generous, funny, and tall... okay, so that last one is just something I loved on a personal level because as a tall woman I get tired of always reading about how 'petite' every heroine is. But most of all I loved that she's Native American! Something I've been begging Entangled's imprints for more of are non-white heroes and heroines. One of my closest friends is Native American and has taught me so much about her family, her tribe, and their culture that it was refreshing to see Scott do the same with Tee.
Leo, in contrast, is a dragon shifter who has fallen in love with Tee and because she hasn't shown his mark knows she's not the mate destined for him. It was killing me to see him struggle with how deeply he loved her and the lengths he was going to because of it. He's much the strong and quiet type so the more aggressive approach Tee has with him makes for some page burning sexual tension. Let's just say I'll never look at an elevator the same way again. ;)
SDMHA was impossible to put down. Between the relationship between Leo and Tee, the trouble with her tribe, and the involvement of the other dragons in various parts of the story I was swept away to Las Vegas and didn't want to come home. Sensual and funny, action-packed and tear-inducing this book filled me up and rang me out. One of the most enjoyable category romances—I'd dare say romances, period—I've read and I am in agony waiting for the next installment. If you want to read something that can both move you to tears and make you snicker, drop your jaw and have you fanning yourself you HAVE to read this one and the good news is that it can stand alone enough you can read it first and then go back to LOTD. Trust me. BUY THIS BOOK. You are going to LOVE it.

Tee is a Native American woman who also happens to be pretty awesome at her job! She's a casino hostess and her job is simply to be the best enabler in town! Keeping the clients sweet and entertained and help them spend money is the name of the game and it's a game that Tee plays to win. If there's a fly in the ointment then it's a very big one and his name is Leo. Leo is the one man who Tees body cries out for but he just won't seem to act on their mutual attraction . Tees beyond frustrated and about to take matters into her own hands but what she doesn't realise is Leo is a shape shifting dragon and life's about to get very complicated .
Hey romance and sexy dragons now there's a winning combination. Add intelligent , likeable characters to the mix and more than a bit of sass and this humorous story is bound to appeal to lovers of paranormal romance. I loved Tee and her pride in her heritage truly resonated with me. Leo is a guy who has to make hard decisions and fate really seemed to be laughing at him in this story. My only niggle is that I didn't really feel the shifter element of this story as much as I'd have liked and it felt a little short. It's great fun to read though full of laughs and there's even some bad guys to boo and hiss at ! If you fancy a shifter book about modern dragons then this could well be the perfect read for you.
