Editorial Reviews

Review

Ages 3-8 In the spring, Rabbit and Hedgehog are having a picnic when the rock that Rabbit is sitting on rumbles and cracks. A baby dragon emerges, and they take him home. However, the little creature becomes a big problem when it can no longer fit in the house. The friends come up with a solution so that the dragon is not excluded. The illustrations are rich in detail and texture. Colors range from the lush greens of the season, to the blue-black moonlit night as the backdrop for their campfire. The faces of the three characters are full of endearing expressions and tenderness. This story of friendship and inclusion will be enjoyed by parents and children alike. --Kris Hickey, Columbus Metropolitan Library, OH, School Library Journal

'A Dragon Moves In' is a gorgeous book to look at with richly detailed oil illustrations. The story is full of charm and I love the warmth and sweetness in the friendship of the three characters. My daughter ate this one up and I plan on keeping it as a collector's item for years to come!

I purchased this book for Christmas for a 6 year old boy who loves dragons. I read it before I wrapped it, and was tempted not to give it up! The illustations and the message were both wonderful. The recipient was quite pleased with it, and at some point, I will purchase a copy for my own collection. I love to give books as gifts, and this one is a winner.

I am rating the Kindle version using the Kindle Fire HD. I really like the story and pictures but am not happy with the way the two were put together. There are a few cases where the words on the page do not match the picture. I am also not happy that I can't see the name or a picture of the book on the books tab within my devise - all I get is a Kindle logo and I have to click on the book to find out which one it is. I have two picture books now and they both show up the same so it is very confusing. The book content gets 5 stars but the Kindle version only gets 1.

I bought this book on a Kindle Daily Deal, and it just doesn't work in that format. I read to my son from the iPad, and the images are small and it looks like a bad PDF of the book. The story is also very short, and at least for my five year old, not very interesting.

Rabbit and Hedgehog head out for a picnic and the fun begins with a loud crack that turns out to be a dragon egg hatching. What else could Rabbit and Hedgehog do but bring the baby dragon home with them? At first, they have all sorts of fun and adventures together, then the dragon grows too big for the house with disastrous results; but happily they all work together to build a new home and celebrate with fireworks. Two little field mice follow the story from page to page.
The story is a heartfelt tale about true friends. A beautiful book, a delightful read.
Lisa Falkenstern brings warmth and life to her charming characters with lush oil paintings, every time I look at an illustration I am delighted by some detail I missed before. Highly recommended.

My daughter is a HUGE fan of dragons, so we recently bought a few dragon books from Amazon without reading them first. This is by far the favorite. The illustrations are awesome, and the story is meaningful without beating you over the head with a "lesson." [spoiler alert]

A dragon egg hatches during a tea party, and the rabbit and hedgehog bring him home. As he grows, he no longer fits in their house. Eventually, he gets stuck and they demolish their little house trying to get him un-stuck. So they build a bigger house (castle) that everyone can fit in.

I love that the book subtly focuses on critical thinking to solve major problems. It also does a great job showing us that even though things can go massively wrong, we can work together to put them back together.

The illustrations were well done, but the text just didn't flow for me, making the story a series of starts and stops, that really took away any magical quality the story might have capitalized on.

A Dragon Moves In is a story about two friends who find a baby dragon one day and decide to take it home. Their new dragon friend soon outgrown their house. Lisa Falkenstern has written a very cute story with beautiful illustrations. If I were to ever write a children's book, I should like Ms. Falkenstern to illustrate it for me. Classic style characters with lovely detail, and a cute story that is high on the "Read it again, Mommy" list in our home.
