Ren is just a regular girl.... who's mother had her basically in hiding for most of her life (from whom, she didn't know) and then went missing a handful of years ago causing Ren to live on the street for a bit before she was taken in by a thieving ring before she was rescued by her now-best friend and roommate. Totally just a regular girl.
It's her 21st birthday, and rather than just getting toasted, she gets kidnapped. By a panther shifter's underling. The chaos continues from there. We meet another 3 shifters, learn that Ren is the last dragon shifter (assuming her mother is really gone).
I really liked the pacing in this book. I never got bored but I also didn't feel like everything was gunning at 100mph the whole time. There were comfortable lulls in action and craziness along with the occasional steamy moment (nothing super heated yet).
All in all I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to see how things progress amongst the characters.
after enjoying the first two books of Walt's "Dragon's Gift", Amazon
suggested another dragon reverse harem book. Unfortunately, I found
this one quite a bit less fun.
An orphaned street kid, Ren's life has finally started to turn
around a bit as she has a real job, and finally the scratch, along
with her best friend as roommate, to rent a real apartment.
Celebrating with a drink on her twenty-first birthday, she finally
opens the locket gifted to her by her missing mother, and her life
takes a sudden change as she is kidnapped out of the blue.
Waking in a strange house, she finds a very apologetic and strangely
attractive man who explains that the employee sent to monitor her
badly overstepped his bounds. Oddly she finds his explanation
emotionally plausible though it doesn't make much logical sense and
he promises that when he summons the other "alphas" all will be
Well, it turns out that "all" is that Ren ("Serenity") is (apparently)
the last Dragon shifter, and that traditionally the head dragon
shifter mates with the four alphas (cat, bird, wolf and bear) to
"unite the clans". That explains the attraction Ren feels, but
unfortunately she can't "shift", and there are those who feel the
clans should *not* be united, and who may have killed her mother.
Ren and the alphas set out on a quest to a) escape with their lives,
b) put down the rogue shifters & c) find out what happened to her
mother. Along the way, sex ensues.
I'm not wild about this one, and will not be following it up. The
story is told in alternating viewpoint chapters by Ren and each
alpha which is rather distracting, and the setup is vague. At times
it seems like the four alphas are world-wide positions, but each
seems to be American and its unclear what responsibilities they
really have. (In particular they leave pretty much incommunicado
on a risky quest). Also, the one other potentially interesting
character, the best friend, gets sidelined mid-book leading to a
too romancey for me concentration on the forming harem relationship.
(Sex & romance are fine, but I want other characters in a story..)
I chose this book because of the variety of shifters In it. Sometimes you need a book that’s a little different. I would recommend this book because the dialogue was easy to follow and the romance was still strong with all the action happening.
