Well, I can say that I totally disagree with some of the reviews I read. To me, the minutia is what fleshes out the characters and brings them to life. I immediately was able to differentiate among the various characters. Not a problem.
Those things aside, there are few books that hold my interest as this one did. The self-doubt and angst, the seasawing of emotions, those things bring these dragons to life. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and hope to read more about them.
This book is an 3.5 star review for me.
I will start with the fact that i got lost.
The book starts and it just throws you in a world that you don't know who is who and the connections between them.
Too many people who i didn't know to the point i had to search in goodreads to see if there was a previous book i might have missed.
For 30 pages i thought Ryuu was a person's name!
ok ok ...
so the story is intresting and the characters though difficult i like...
the only issue is that its too freaking long and it ends up boring.
It could be shorter....its too tangled up in all the itsy bitsy tiny details and emotions and i am fighting against you though i want to be with you cause i think you would be better without me and i know you hate me though in real you do not but you are in love with me as well and you fight to be with me....~pause to breath~
You get my point!!!!!
In the end despite the fact i found the book somewhat tiring and repetive ...
i really liked it!!
Want to read more about these guys and gals!
I have to say I was not disappointed. Eden Ashe writes characters you simply MUST care about. they are real, they exist and what happens to them matters. This isn't just a romance, this is a story about strength. strength to accept who you are, even if it isn't who want it to be, strength is accepting the person you fall in love with, even if its inconvenient and painful. Strength to let others see beyond the face you show the world, strength to let someone close enough to understand how weak you truly are.
That's the romance, but wait- there's more, just when you think this is going to be your formula romance, Ms. Ashe gives us thrills and not just the physical kind ( although they were pretty damn hot!) No, we get thrills enough to satisfy the thriller reader in me and then some. My only criticism was that is was not long enough, but's okay it's only book one. With that said, I hope the author is a fast writer, because I can't wait for book two.
Bottom line, if romance is your thing don't even hesitate, do the clicky thing and buy this book. even if romance isn't your genre of choice, don't let it deter you, this is a hell of a ride.
