My only complaint is that Mr. Reinhard tends to write rather short books. In my opinion, stories with smart criminals, should be difficult to capture. So the speed in which the Agents in this story were able to capture their killer just didn't jibe with me. I believe the plot would have been even juicier if the author had spent more time developing it.
All in all, I enjoyed the story and the main characters. I see myself purchasing more to read in the future.
The novel reads as if the author simply sat down one day and decided to write a thriller, and then didn't stop until the book was finished. There's nothing wring with that, of course, but occasionally the dialogue seems forced. It's as if it is only there as a filler while the author tries to decide where to take the story next. In no way does this keep me from wanting to read more, though.
Even though it's not quite unique as to how the killer finds each of his victims, the process in which he kills them is something you don't come across every day. I thought that his part in the book's end would have been a bit stronger, but I'm not disappointed.
I really like the supporting characters as well. Outside of a very short lived, hormone induced bout of jealousy, Agent Rawlings has a very sane, supportive and trusting wife. This is a far cry from the divorced agent I'm used to reading about. The attractive female partner also crosses no lines. There is no point in the novel where I doubt her competency, or feel like she is less an agent than her male counterpart. Nor does she seem to feel the need to prove herself, like most female agents do in novels. There's also no testosterone driven competition between the male agents.
So, without all of these distracting annoyances, you simply get to enjoy this thrilling novel. I definitely recommend giving this book a shot.
I am so hooked on this character and his persona that I am compelled to read book 2. Thank you E.H. for this fantastic read!
