Pretty cool book with loads of examples and ideas, but I don't consider it beginner. There are somewhat advanced techniques of observation, shading, perspective and proportion which are above the abilities of most small children or adults learning to draw for the first time. That said, if you have a pre-teen/teen drawer with some experience and a great imagination (or you're an adult fan of fantasy looking to refresh your skills), this would make an awesome gift/guide.

If you are interested in dragons biology and mythology this is a well written, interesting book, however, it wasn't quite what I wanted, there were very few illustrations, although those that were included were beautifully drawn. I just needed a basic how to draw book with loads of examples.
