All the Dread Magnificence of Perversity is the heaviest music yet from this infernal mutation, mixing in huge black blots of grisly distorted bass riffage and noxious undertow with GTT's trademark symphony of orchestral strings bent into hellish atonal melody, horrific screams and guttural operatic wails wrenched from the pits of orgiastic ecstasy, grinding slow-motion percussion, and a thick, suffocating atmosphere of cancerous horror and dread. Packaged in a heavy gatefold package with a Gnaw Their Tongues vinyl sticker.

If you are familiar with this mans work,he is prolific,then you will no doubt enjoy this release,which is why i purchased it, no great suprises,however it feels more accomplished,if thats the right word,its not shocking or perverse,it is an enjoyable listening experience,which is probably how perversion is perceived, consumed and ultimately accepted,by people who do not want to be accepted.Thank you.

　オランダ発、GNAW THEIR TONGUES の１stフルレンス。２００９年の作品。

　ただし、「１stアルバム」ということではなく、この作品が発表される以前も、数作作品を残している。２００７年に出された「An Epiphanic Vomiting of Blood」なる作品もそのうちの一つで、かつては超限定販売とされていたとのこと。

　「GNAW THEIR TONGUES」は、正確には「Band」ではなく、あくまで個人としての作曲家である。それぞれのアルバムには一貫して「ALL MUSIC/LYRICS/INSTRUMENTATION BY　MORIES」「SLEEVE ART BY MORIES」と記載されている。私自身は、この事実を後から知り、何より驚愕した。数曲耳にしただけで、どう考えても、「並大抵の作曲家『集団』ではない」と誤信し、微塵の疑いも抱く余地がなかったからである。

　そうした側面から、彼の作品を見つめなおすと、彼が「Band Sound」に必要以上に固執することがない理由がよく理解できる。楽曲中に散りばめられた、破滅的な世界観を生み出すDrumsやGuitarの音色はまさしく、それらを表現するためのものであり、それ以上でもそれ以下でもない。少なくとも、私はそう感じている。

　この「All the Dread Magnificence of Perversity」では、そうした、彼の感性が全体を通して鋭く貫かれており楽曲構成からサウンドプロダクションまで、まるで、非の打ち所が無い。彼の得意とする、究極とも言える不協和音オーケストラを背景に、無秩序に崩れかかったパーカッションがこだまし、かつ、メロディーがメロディーを形成することの無い、口ずさむことすら拒まんとする、不可思議な世界が広がってゆく。それは、一度引き込まれたものは、二度とは帰れない、底知れぬ果てしない残虐性と恐怖に満ち溢れた世界である。

　映画音楽は一般に印象派の系譜であるとされているが、戦後、長きにわたり蓄積してきたホラー映画音楽が見事にここに「一つの楽曲としての構成を持つ作品」としてまとめ上げられている。これは、音楽史に残るとてつもない偉業である。

　ホラー映画音楽のファンには言うまでも無く、印象派などのクラシック音楽を日頃から愛聴する方にも自信を持って推薦する。

　今後とも彼の、更なる音楽的「深化」を心から期待したい。
