Dream Accomplished: A Story of Cancer, A Mother's Love & Taylor Swift Kindle Edition
"You have cancer". Those words changed my life. After I heard them, all I could think was, "My daughter's only 8". It just over whelmed me. "How many dreams would I be able to help her make come true?".........
Hello, my name is Elizabeth Gross. This is the true story of my cancer journey. I've written it to say thank you to my daughter's hero, Taylor Swift, and to help and inspire others as they, too, battle cancer or invisible illness.
From a fellow Spoonie, Cancer Battler & SwiftieMom, thank you in advance for reading and sharing about my book. It is the first I've ever written, and it literally poured out of my heart. Filled with inspiration, resources, hope, humor, tips, tears & Taylor, I sincerely hope it is a help to you, or someone you love. -e :)

I teared up several times reading about Elizabeth's journey. She's gone through so much, yet her love for her daughter and desire to help others shines through like a beautiful light. Between the descriptions of what has helped her on her cancer journey and the incredible moments her family shared searching for Taylor Swift, this is a must-read story."

It is a detailed account of how clueless and scared we feel when we receive a life threatening diagnosis such as cancer. How scary it can be when different doctors disagree in how severe our illness is and the most appropriate treatment. How disconcerting it is that different doctors that are specialists in blood cancer could have very different opinions. It goes into detail of the different treatments and tests.
Listen and trust yourself, advises Elizabeth Gross. Then, there is the journey of meeting Taylor Swift. You know that they are going to meet but it keeps you wondering how and when it will happen. This book kept me awake, wondering and reading well beyond my bedtime.
Reading this book made me appreciate my health even more.
Dream Accomplished is a memoir by Elizabeth Gross in which she talks about her diagnosis, her journey living with a rare disease and shows how Taylor Swift entered her life because of this illness. This book is split into two parts. The first part is about how Elizabeth Gross is diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia, specifically MPN, a very rare form of cancer. Her illness completely changes her life and not only affects her but affects her family as well. Page, her daughter, listens to Taylor Swift to help cope with her mom’s illness. Soon, both Page and Elizabeth bond over Taylor and she makes them both forget about their troubles and anxieties.
This leads into the second part of the book as it is all about Elizabeth’s journey to meet Taylor Swift, not only for her sake, but for her daughter’s as well. Elizabeth understands that Page feels that Taylor is a true friend and begins on a mission that seems impossible, a mission to meet Page’s hero. Although it does take a while, luckily Elizabeth and a few of Taylor’s close friends pull a few strings and after a long amount of time, they accomplish the ultimate dream, the dream to the one and only Taylor.
Dream Accomplished is a beautiful story about unconditional love, specifically a mother’s unconditional love for her daughter. I was touched by the way Elizabeth kept fighting to make Page’s dream come true and cheered when they finally met miss Taylor Swift. As I read during the part where Elizabeth and Page met Taylor, I couldn’t help but think it was so cool that she poured such insightful descriptions into this novel. I also loved reading about the emotional times the Gross family had when they went to two shows during the RED tour. Being a fan of Taylor myself, I also went to a show in Massachusetts during the RED tour and I can say that her interpretation was dead on. I was so glad someone else could relate to the feelings you get when you see your favorite artist.
Overall, this book is well written and inspiring. Gross’ writing flows well and as you read her story, you feel like you are talking to an old friend. She does a very good job of defining Essential Thrombocythemia as most people have never heard of it, and she even includes a dictionary at the end of her book that includes all of the medical terms she uses throughout. She even includes other terms, like slang, just to make sure the reader has a clear understanding of what she is trying to say. Unlike most authors, she takes the time to give you real and helpful advice which I thought was really smart and honest. Gross also does a good job of bringing out her emotions in this book, specifically her thankfulness and joyfulness to Taylor Swift for unknowingly doing so much for her family. It was nice to see a memoir that felt so genuine and made me feel like if I work hard enough and truly believe in myself, I could make my dreams comes true. Despite her illness, Elizabeth maintains such a positive attitude and every person should strive to do the same. However this book is not all about illness, rather it is a definition of what it means to reach for the stars. I recommend this book to anyone who has an invisible illness like cancer, any Swiftie out there, or even to mothers who have daughters. This book will teach you that although life can be unpredictable, you can do your best to make it positive as long as you have the right attitude.
