Kate Douglas' Dream Bound has too much sex. There. I said it. The premise is that a forty-something-year-old man, Mac Dugan, made contact with an alien race twenty years ago through the power of his sexual fantasies. During a four-month stint in which the alien returned to him nightly, Dugan begins plans to save the alien's race from the other alien race that imprisons it on a spaceship on the dark side of the moon.
By recruiting six super-smart and telepathically gifted people, he builds a team twenty years after his contact to help give these aliens human bodies and help them escape. The team members do this by sharing their sexual fantasies in a remote compound Mac has built.
In the midst of these sexual fantasies, every. single. encounter. is at least a menage a trois or more. It's becoming the new missionary position in erotica, but when every sex scene is pretty much the same, it gets old, and I found myself skimming over the sex scenes. Which were plentiful with six nubile team members, in addition to Mac. The only non-menage sex that I can remember was an initial encounter in the first few pages of the book. If variety is the spice of erotica, Dream Bound was as bland as baby cereal.
The worst part? You don't get an ending. To find out what happens, you need to read the next book, coming out in November. This is a first book in a duology (if you don't count the short story that kicked it off, which appeared in an anthology) that doesn't stand on its own.

Zianne is a Nyrian - a people who are powered by sexual energy. There was once a beautiful planet she and her people lived on. Now there are very few of them left and they are held captive and forced to use their energies to help the race that captured them. In a bold move, Zianne found Mac and once he believed her story, they worked on a plan to free her people and bring them to Earth to live and find their soul mates. Zianne had planned on being with Mac every step of the way, but those plans went haywire one morning.
Mac has finally found the six men and women who have big enough hearts to embrace his story, strong enough sexual drive to create fantasies to capture the attention of the Nyrians and, hopefully, in time to save a race. Mac's hopes are all in the hands of his newest employees, if they can buy into the situation. It doesn't take long before all of the team is having hot and erotic fantasies. Now everyone knows that they are not only in time to save the Nyrians but to also save the Earth from the same fate as the Nyrians. To make life interesting, someone is too interested in the ranch and what is going on there and isn't above causing trouble to find out. Mac and the team have a plan and with the help of the Nyrians put it into action, now it is only a matter of time before all involved will discover if they will have many years of erotic sexual encounters or if Earth and Earthlings will fall like the Nyrians' planet did.
Sensual and sexual fantasies are wonderful, especially when they can save a race as seven men and one woman set out to do. Dream Bound brings together a team of six men and one woman in a desperate act to save not only a race but the love of their boss's life. I started this book one night before bed and that was a very foolish thing to do as it turned out, I didn't want to put it down. The only reason it took me two days to finish was because of that nasty word work. I was immediately drawn into Mac's mission and then into all of the team he brought together to fulfill it. The mixture of suspense and eroticism was wonderfully done and had me turning pages at a rapid speed. My only problem with Ms. Douglas' writing is how well she drew me in and then how I was left in suspense craving the next book. Yes, her cliffhanger was just that good.
Dream Bound is hot, sensual and suspenseful all at once - just the perfect way to make you not want to put it down. I'm counting the days until I can find out the next chapter with Mac, his team, and all the Nyrians. By the time I turned the last page, I knew that Dream Bound was a must read and one I had to Joyfully Recommend because of the intense writing and how easy it was to fall under all the characters' spells.
