Dream Family is the fourth book in the Dream Series. I listened to the first two books, Dream Student and Dream Doctor, and they were okay but I liked the third book, Dream Child, a lot more, so I was looking forward to reading this book.
This is one of those reviews that is difficult to write because I am torn. When Sara is in jail for one night, she loses her identification and, at times, even forgets who she is, who her kids are, who her husband is. And it traumatizes her beyond anything I could imagine. For the first time, I couldn’t empathize with her, I pitied her. Like Paul Sorrentino said, “Doctor? Dr. Alderson? Get a grip. It was one day, and it’s over and done with.”
On the other hand, I was able to wade through the rambling and self pity and the rest of the story was good. Sara’s dreams are changing in interesting ways and she and her mom are able to use their dreams to help themselves and others.
I feel like I’ve really gotten to know the characters. I think that’s one reason I didn’t care for Sara’s reaction to being jailed. She’s always been so strong. Brian, her husband, is still patient, loving, and unwavering. My favorite character is still their precocious, intelligent, adorable daughter, Lizzie.
I did start with the audio version of this book but I had to switch to the ebook version. I liked reading this better so I could skip some of the rambling.
Sarah has always seemed such a strong, determined protagonist. Readers might imagine she can conquer every mountain, as might she. But now she starts to crack under the strain. Falsely accused, stripped from all she holds dear, she spirals into a depression that threatens to overwhelm everyone around her. Dreams that once called her to help others might hold the answer to how she can help herself. But maybe these others need help as well. And maybe in helping others she’ll find the right path.
Several mysteries intertwine in this novel, with just enough hints for readers to guess the answers before Sarah does. But the novel’s more than mystery, and more than tragedy. In the midst of it all, Sarah will learn more about herself, in sickness and in health... and in dreams as well.
Great characters and relationships lift the novel above tragedy, add humor and pathos, and set the scene for more to come in the series. I really enjoyed this one and just wish I hadn't waited so long to read it.
Disclosure: I was given a free ecopy and I offer my honest review.
Sara is happily working, when she is suddenly being arrested and taken to jail for what is going to be one of the biggest nightmares of her life. Thrust into a horrid situation, because of a greedy woman, and a corrupt and self-serving Prosecuting Attorney, Sara’s entire life, and the lives of all who love her, are about to embark on a terrible and emotional journey that is far from Sara’s control. Sara has to call upon a man from her past that she loathes, but he is the only one who can help.
Throughout the story, we find Sara, who has always been there for everyone else, now unable to face even her own demons. Be prepared feel your own heart ache for all that Sara must endure in this very raw, and very emotional installment of the Dream series. See her strength as she continues to help others, even while losing her own battles. Characters from Sara’s past become intertwined in her current life, and we begin to feel close to them just as we have Sara and Brian and the rest of her family.
Dream Family will completely absorb you as you battle throughout trying to control your own tears as you walk right beside of Sara through each and every emotional scene. You’ll feel compelled to reach over and hold her close to you as she breaks down, and breaks away, from the demons that she has deeply hidden in her soul in this one. In the end though, you will realize that the love you have in your life, and the very existence of those around you, is what truly makes everything in this life, beautiful.
Now after one horrifying night in jail Sara is lost. Lost inside her own mind. She is suffering more and more and cannot pull out. Who will she turn to for help?
Will here dreams be her undoing or her salvation. Even when things start looking up her severe Post Tramatic Stress drags here like a concrete block, to the bottom.
What do you do when you are lost in your trauma? When your experience never ends? After being free for weeks Sara is still dying inside. Listen to J.J. DiBenedetto's 4th psycological thriller come to life as narrated by Victoria Robinson. What Will Sara Do? WWSD???
