Product Description

This 2012 debut solo album from 2 time Tony Award nominated Laura Osnes features songs recorded live during her June 2012 engagement at the legendary Café Carlyle and features special guests Jeremy Jordan (Bonnie & Clyde, Newsies) and Tom Wopat (Catch Me If You Can) as well as her husband, Nathan Johnson. The album consists of an evening of songs culled from Broadway, the Great American Songbook, as well as from the worlds of jazz and folk. Her quartet was led by her Musical Director Fred Lassen on piano and featured Marc Copely on guitars, Pete Donovan on bass and Larry Lelli on drums. The engagement at the Carlyle was directed by Joe Langworth.

Review

Ms. Osnes, who grew up in Eagan, Minn., outside St. Paul, is being called the new Julie Andrews. That comparison was bolstered by her strong, likable portrayal of Maria in a recent concert production of The Sound of Music. --The New York Times

An evening that showcases a beautiful voice, personality and style. She sings her heart out - and melts yours. --New York Daily News

Osnes' engagement at the Cafe Carlyle resplendently showcases her crystalline soprano, as well as the versatility that is making her the performer that producers turn to whether they need a gun-toting bank robber or an erudite heiress.... What might be most impressive about her work, which is backed by a terrific quartet led by Fred Lassen, is that she can take classics, long associated with some legendary singers, and make them her own. --Huffington Post

I became a fan of Laura Osnes' singing voice while watching "Grease You're the One That I Want" TV show and I have followed her career and success on Broadway ever since. I've been lucky to see her in two productions on Broadway -- "Grease" and "Anything Goes" and was disappointed that Bonnie & Clyde - Original Broadway Cast Recording" closed before I had the chance to get to New York to see it. She has a beautiful, crystal clear voice and this album showcases her voice nicely. It's always special to hear an artist in a live setting so this one from the Cafe Carlyle gives you a nice taste of her personality along with the beautiful music. Perhaps she could have been a little wider in the range of songs, but I think it is a wonderful, charming album that will be played often.

Laura Osnes: reality TV show star, Broadway leading lady, nicest person on earth.

What I love most about this CD aren't the tunes (which are lovely) but the banter. You can tell she is a genuinely kind human being who loves what she's doing. The tunes are mostly standards she breathes new life into, but I'd prefer to hear her sing some new works. She was the best thing about Bonnie and Clyde and can brilliantly originate characters.

After following her competitive trip from Small Town Sandy to her performances on Broadway, Laura's album is a fresh voice from my speakers. She provides great talk back to the audience and with her special guests as she presents her favorites to Carlyle audiences. Great accompaniment with each selection. I recommend it highly if you are a fan of her work.

A truly exceptional recording. It includes a wonderful selection of music and the banter between songs is actually intimate and funny. Laura's voice is absolutely incredible - she has plenty of power but doesn't over use it. Her voice has a sweet, subtle, and charming color, and her pitch is spot on throughout. Try "How 'Bout a Dance" and "Must Be My Lucky Day." Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I love Laura Osnes's voice as well as her acting. It's a good first attempt at a cabaret performance. The banter and anecdotes between stories is still a little forced or clearly rehearsed, but she makes even that adorable. AMAZING song selection.

I became an instant Laura fan after seeing her in Bonnie & Clyde last year. I couldn't make it to see her at the Carlyle, so I was thrilled when this was released on CD. I have to admit that when I first saw the list of songs, I noticed a few that I typically don't like, but Laura made even those songs amazing. Her voice is so clear, strong and versatile, and she makes it all seem so effortless. I also really enjoyed getting a glimpse into her personality with her intros to many of the songs. Loved her duets with her husband, Tom Wopat, and of course Jeremy Jordan. Can't wait to hear more of Laura's amazing voice in the future.

Laura Osnes is going to be "if not all ready" a #1 Diva. This version from 2012
is a new experience for Laura as you can tell from the sequence of features on the
CD. However that voice and presentation is excellent and is worthy of purchase.
A good helping of Frank Wildhorn which she incorporates in the show

This CD came yesterday and all I can say is: WOW. To quote the previous reviewer: I could listen to Laura all day long; I am at work now and can't wait to get back to my car to listen to more of it. I am savoring what I've heard so far, bottom line. Laura is a true Broadway star, and it's been so fun watching her journey to Broadway. Her voice is so pure and beautiful; it's an absolute TREAT to have this CD. I had been hoping that she would have a solo CD, and voila :--) Laura cannot go wrong in whatever she does, she's a joy to listen to and watch in a show!! I'm really hoping to get out to NYC next year to see her in "Cinderella" and I am sure she hasn't seen the last of Tony nominations in her life. Buy this CD--you will not be disappointed.
