As I live in Alaska and have a glaring LED street light outside my window, I use a sleep mask 365 nights per year. My husband and I have bought this Dream Zone sleep mask 8-10 times over the last 10 years and always been satisfied with them. It's a good, solid sleep mask.
The mask has some padding, but seems the right amount - not too thick or too thin. A tag on the sleep mask indicates "Polyester Fibers" which I think is referring to the padding. Another tag on the sleep mask indicates "Front and Back 100% Silk, Trim Polyester". It's been a rare occasion where I've gotten hot using it, but then I live in Alaska so maybe am not the best one to address that aspect. It has a single elastic strap almost an inch wide and the velcro closure section overlaps about 2.5 inches in the back when 100% overlapping. I have long hair and never had a problem with it catching in my hair. It stays in place on my head. I've never noticed the closure in back while sleeping.
My favorite part of this sleep mask is at the bottom on either side of the nose there are extra padded sections and in my opinion, this is what really keeps the light out and fills the gap that usually happens at the bottom of the mask beside the nose on most sleep masks. Does it keep 100% of light out? I'd say 99%. The mask does make contact with your eyelids so if feeling it on your eyelashes will bother you, this is not the mask for you. It does not bother me at all and I think feels sort of comforting.
Some reviewers commented on a scent and I was surprised at that as I'd never noticed a scent after buying the product repeatedly for years. When I got my latest mask in Feb 2016 I sniffed it. I guess there's a mild, pleasant scent that I would never be able to identify and thought it was just how the product smelled, like any new product has a smell. I also always wash any product that I wear on my body before using it so maybe some of the scent gets muted by doing that. Anyway, I never had a problem with or even noticed a scent.
Speaking of washing, you want to hand wash this mask with some mild detergent like Woolite. You can run it through the washer & dryer but it's lifespan will be much shortened. I'd guess that this mask lasts me about a year, hand washing it every week or two. It doesn't fall apart, but gets smaller and doesn't keep the light out as well towards the end of it's life.
When I went to make my latest sleep mask purchase, I thought, hey, I'll look around at the sleep mask world to see if there is something else I'd like to try. I was dismayed to find that sleep mask reviews on Amazon have been SWAMPED with fake reviews and/or the vendors sending out mass quantities of their products for free in order to generate reviews. What a shame as now you can't trust reviews to help you buy a product with which you'll be happy. After hours of reading these unhelpful reviews, I decided to buy this mask again as it's always been good. But I thought I'd finally write a review of it to maybe help someone decide if this is the mask they want.
Only giving one star because I can't give no stars. Completely different sleep mask arrived. It's 100% polyester fleece with a strap that is not adjustable. Completely different than the pictures or description. When I went to return it, it says return/ refund not available. Very disappointed.
Never thought I'd write a review for a slumber mask, but here it is! I thought wearing slumber masks to bed is kinda silly. Until I bought this! It's soft, snug, and perfectly contoured. My bedroom window faces the east, and it gets pretty damn bright by 6am. And I don't have to be up until 9 am. I used to toss and turn for 3 hours and felt groggy all day. I wore this, and OMG! Perfect darkness until the time the alarm goes off. It does have a very mild minty smell. But it went away in a couple of days. I would have preferred if the band had been in fabric instead of elastic & Velcro. I was worried it might pull my hair. But it's very comfortable. Trust me, you need this.
Mask part is great...the elastic on it is another story. It is odd the folks who made this paid all this attention to getting the mask right, then took some cheap elastic and sewed it on with a little Velcro. The elastic is hard and digs into the part of your ears where glasses arms rest, so you end up putting the elastic higher on your head so it doesn't dig into your ears...well and it took about 2 weeks before the elastic stretched enough I had to move the velcro to make it a touch tighter...well that stretched again so this is a losing battle.
On Delta going to Hawaii they gave us cheap sleeping masks with two thin but soft elastics on it, so one could go above the ear and the other below...those were very comfortable so I might try sewing something like that on this mask to keep it in place, and more comfortable to wear.
Exactly what I was looking for in a sleeping mask. It's got atuffing in it to giveit a little fluff, which makes it very comfortable. It also blocks out more light that way. It has little pockets below the eyes which eliminates 99% of light coming through the opening of the nose. Its soft, very silky and doesn't over heat. The strap is adjustable and actually very big compared to any sleeping mask I've had. (I've had a lot.) It adjusts with.velcro which I had to tighten to make it fit comfortably on my head, so no worries on size. It came in a sealed plastic bag and when opened it had a faint scent of what I think to be lavender, but mostly smelled of new processed fabric/materials. Its not an overwhelming smell at all and probably wouldnt even be noticed by most people unless smelling for it. I would recommend to anyone. Out of all the sleeping masks I own and have tried, this will be my number1. Ive been looking very long for a mask that had some fluff in it instead of being just a peice of fabric. It feels much softer on my face and eliminates light through the nose area. In no way does it intrude the eyes from opening or put any pressure.on them. And if it did, it is easily adjustable which would fix that problem. I am going to buy a couple more of these because my sleeping masks disappear all the time. I honestly just want extras of these because this is such a nice experience, I am not going to be able to comfortably wear any of my other masks. Its gonna be this or nothing! If you feel like you would be allergic to any kind of fragrance thats on it Im sure you could throw it in the laundry or handwash it. Its delicate but very well made. Its not going to fall apart through a wash and Im sure it wont bleed. Thank you very much, ypu have made my nights a lot more relaxing!
