Editorial Reviews
The Dreamer, The Believer delivers the consciousness Common's audience has to come expect from him, but also a rawness and passion that might come as a surprise. Some might even say that he's rapping with a chip on his shoulder.

It's probably because I hold Common to such a high standard that I wasn't blown away by this album. In my opinion, Common is one of the best emcees to ever grace the mic, and he has released some of the best albums I have ever listened to. This is a good album, but in my opinion, not near his best work. The album flows nicely (as all of his albums do) and there are some very good tracks, but I just wasn't blown away. Like I said, because of the extremely high standards that I hold Common to, I was a bit disappointed here. However, in today's age of terrible music, this album is definitely better than most of the other albums you'll hear. It's not on the level of "Resurrection" or "One Day It'll All Make Sense," but this is still a solid album from a great artist.

So sick of these non-talented rappers pushing out the most simplistic irrelevant banter ever with a cheesy hook and stupid dance and calling it music. I need my daily dose of this here medicine. LOL.
Seriously though, very good album. I love that Common always tells stories in his songs. I enjoy how he is able step back and bring an outside perspective as well as first hand experience in his lyrics. In my opinion Common is probably one of the most under-rated artists.
I would recommend this album to anyone even ppl who don't like hip hop that much and especially to the young teens who are being pummeled by today's garbage, grab this album and experience some substance for once.

I'm a giant Common fan, and its great to see him come back with a more traditional album, after UMC-Which was pretty bad. This album is fantastic. I rate it around 92/100 or so.....Heres a track-by track review. Overall rating of song in {}'s
1. The Dreamer [Feat. Maya Angelou]-A Great, chilling track, positive, album starts off great {89/100}
2. Ghetto Dreams [Feat. Nas]-Fantastic, Nas & Common both KILLED their verses. One Of My Favorite tracks on the album. {96/100}
3. Blue Sky-Another Fantastic Song, Common can switch up his flow WITH EASE, Its a banger also, fantastic hook. Probably my favorite, with Ghetto Dreams. {97/100}
4. Sweet-Kind of an untraditonal Common track, more of a bragging/dissing song. He disses rappers who sing too much [I.E Drake], Nevertheless, i still liked this track {85/100}
5. Gold-This was an ALRIGHT Track, its just kind of a chill out song, nothing bad though, {78/100}
6. Lovin Lost-I Liked this track, had some nice lyricism, nice song overall {80}
7. Raw [How You Like It]-I Really liked this one, i loved the beat, and the hook. Great. {93/100}
8. Cloth-Again, GREAT GREAT Track, i can chillout to this also, superb lyricism {91/100}
10. Windows-I Liked all the tracks on this album, this is one of them, i liked the story behind it {89/100}
11. The Believer [Feat. John Legend] Legend's style complements Common's rapping style, good track {88/100}
12. Pops Belif-Cant really rate a pop's belief, but it was a fitting end to the album
Overall, this is worth a buy! I'v listened to it like 8 times, in two days...I Rate it overall, around like 93/100..

Come on man... he got Maya Angelou on a track son! MAYA ANGELOU! If yo favorite "rapper" could only pay for "hood skipper" on his album, its really cause Maya Angelou thought he had nothing to say on the mic! Props to Common for the great album, conscious lyrics and great production. Suprise to me... good hip-hop is alive!
Suprise tracks:
Dreamer featuring Maya Angelou
and
Ghetto Dreams featuring Nas!
HIP HOP MAKES A NICE COUGH FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE... good job Common.

I'll admit I'm new to Common's music and I'm not the most critical of music as a whole. If I like something I hear I remember it but, I never analyze any parts of it so more than likely this will be a shallow review. Personally, I liked Common's album especially Blue Sky, now one of my all time favorite tracks, because it is innovative and refreshing every time I hear it. His lyrics never fail to impress because he raps about more than just the rich life, already an improvement over other artists.

Most Definitely the best Common album.
Hes taken his best aspects from every album and finally wrapped it into one. It seems as if Common found the perfect balance like the album cover seems to depict. The production is on point getting back to straight killa beats and just ripping MC's, but still able to give deep insight into social ills, or just describe everyday life in a extraordinary way.
Only thing is I wish they put the song Lets Move was on the album.
I don't see how this could get less than 5 mics if this was the old source rating, or anything less than a classic for hip-hop.
maybe you techno heads, or cats on some other ** looking for something else, but the real youngins, hip-hop heads, or anybody who care about lyrics in a song and not just the beat alone. This is the album you buy this year.

Album is phenomenal. You literally cannot be a true fan of hiphop or simply good music and dislike this album. Truly a phenomenal piece of work. Common's flow can seem a bit rushed at times on this disc but the words and messages throughout this CD have never rang truer. No ID's production simply cements this disc as one of the hip hop classics that have been released in a long time.
Highly recommended!

ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!!

Incredible album, every song is a 10 from start to finish. You can literally play every song without skipping any of it. The production is incredible too. Thank you Common! Hip Hop is definitely alive. Best Hip Hop album I've heard and bought in years. I'm gonna go back and repeat the entire album for the 3rd time in a row. Peace.

I'd heard of common and knew he had a lot of credibility as an artist but i didn't find myself listening to his work until i heard blue sky and sweet and after that i was hooked. There both fantastic songs that make up a brilliant album that is easily a contender for album of the year. Perfect for any Hip Hop fan
