Well, at first. The first week was rather stiff, to be honest. Then it softened up to be really comfortable. Never slept better! This lasted.. for about 6 months. We were rotating regularly, as annoying as rotating a king sized mattress is.
Then problems started to occur. Because of the split in the middle, it's actually rather easy to fall in. On top of that, it keep getting bigger. We actually had a few puns about it. She would end up rolling there, and we'd end up calling it "her fault" (as in fault-line). There were a few others. In addition, the bed started sagging. Not bad sagging, but the kind of sagging that after 3-4 months you'd notice that you would be switching your sleep positions to accommodate the sagging. I've gone through at least 4 different positions of 'optimal' sleep comfort at this point to deal with the sagging. It's definitely not ideal.
At this point, You can feel exactly where I sleep. If you sit in the middle of the bed on my side, you'll dip far. If you sit near the foot of the bed, it's like floating on a cloud. A good mattress will get a body indent 4-5 years in, in my experience. This one had one in 6 months. And it just gets worse over time. Re-layering the bed to be more firm just makes any bad pain from the indents worse, so that's out.
Long story short: For $499 it wasn't a bad mattress. But with a 10 year warranty, I had hoped and expected so much more. So I'm really disappointed in the purchase, especially since I had been recommending it to friends. Though at this point, I can't/wouldn't. I'm now only expecting to get maybe 3 years out of it total before I have to call it quits due to discomfort and back pain. Oh and I'm 24 by the way, so if you're prone to back pain from mattresses, I'd stay away.
UPDATE: It's been a few weeks now and while this bed is still comfortable and has no signs of sagging I have noticed two problems. 1- It holds heat. I have noticed no that it's been warmer that I wake up sweaty. I really hope it isn't a huge problem once summer gets here. 2- Where the foam meets in the center I have noticed a bit of a peak forming where the foam pieces are sliding into one another. I'm holding out hope that this doesn't cause any major issues.
Last update: We went all summer with this mattress and it didn't really get too hot to sleep on. There are no depressions in the mattress. We haven't even bothered to flip the layers or anything. It's super comfortable. We are very happy with our purchase. So happy that we are buying another Dreamfoam bed for our son. I also recommend this bed to everyone. I would definitely buy again.
We liked the idea that we could set up different sleep profiles on each side. I like a firmer bed, so I had my side set up with soft on the bottom, medium in the middle, and firm on top. That was a little too firm and caused hip pain. So I tried soft/firm/middle. A little better. I'm wondering if firm/firm/soft might work best, but I can't do that without stealing one of the firm pieces from my wife's side. The middle has become a bit of a gap, where the two sides are at slightly different levels.
The edges are also a problem. There's very little support at the edge.
I really think this bed would work a lot better with an even firmer base, and a latex or high density memory foam layer at the top. The foam inserts (even the firmest one) are pretty flimsy.
I'm at a quandary as to what to switch to. There are some other highly rated choices on Amazon, but this one was highly rated as well. Some of my friends rave about their Tuft & Needle Mattress, and their trial/return policy is outstanding. I'm also considering a Serta Starboard Eurotop mattress after sleeping on one at Legoland Hotel in Florida. It was literally the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on.
