The other dude's wack. This album is shiver-inducingly beautiful, spooky & sparkly. This ranks with Simon Finn's Pass the Distance as one of the greatest...

Yes! This is a REAL lost classic here!

Beautiful trippy stuff, that out-does the Donovan album the "import" stole the artwork from(Barabajagle).

Here light acoustic sounds blend with Mark's voice and make for a nice dreamy landscape. "The Witch" is a favorite, with hand drums ,use of eastern scales, and lyrics about an entrancing witch coming through a window while Mr. Fry's "...alone ,waiting for someone to come on home...". I think this witch has "seduction" on her mind,...but that may just be my feelings intruding here?

One other song keeps recurring throughout the album like a strange hallucination about religious and mythical visions.

Over all this album, that was only originally released in Italy, surely ranks highly as far as "lost" or hardly heard albums go. It's not just highly sought after because it's rare,.....this one is great too!

If you love Psychcedelic Folk, this is a must have.

The one star review is pretty funny, because the guy misses the point of acid folk: it's naive and that's its charm. It's like giving Dr Dre one star for making gangster rap. Mark Fry's music is very trippy in a subtle way building shimmering layers of strums and rhythms. Anyway many highly rated obscurities when you finally hear them are a let down, but I found that this delivers in full. Fry wrote the extensive liner notes which are quite informative. My only gripe is the absence of detail on instrumental personnel. After reading the positive reviews I listened to the 28 second sound samples and was sold.

Here's one of those lost one-album wonders that definitely lives up to all that's been written about it. Mark Fry's teenaged debut as a singer-songwriter of ethereal, childlike but haunted music is a drifting dream through the waning days of acid-folk, with not a lull or dull spot along the way. Breaking the title song into pieces that weave in & out of the other songs was a subtle bit of creative magic, weaving them all together in a golden thread that carries the listener into a very different & timeless place. Perfect for candles & incense & headphones! The CD includes two bonus tracks recorded in LA in the mid-70s, songs that in tone & lyrics reflect the change in culture in those few years. Mark Fry himself contributes reflective & wry liner notes about the making of the album & the times in which it was made. Certainly not for every taste, but a very real jewel for those who hear the horns of Elfland echoing dimly in the distance -- highly recommended!

A seriously beautiful album that needs to be heard. Why this man was not a hero of the time remains a mystery.
