In preparation, I also purchased: Dremel EZ506CU 1-1/2-Inch Premium Metal Cutting Rotary Wheel
After they both arrived, I realized I also needed the Dremel EZ402 EZ Lock Mandrel
I finally charged it up and put it together and went to cut. It made a notch in the metal but it's struggling. A spark flew from the metal. If I hold it there long enough I think it will probably get through it. Keep in mind, this is not a pipe. It's just a thick wire. My expectations may be out of whack but I thought it would cut through it like butter. I was hoping this would help me quickly get this job done. For kicks, I tested it on wood and it seems to be much better.
I give up for now. I'm just going to pay someone to complete this project. Hopefully, I'll eventually figure out other ways to put it to good use around the house. Otherwise, it was just kind of a waste of money. If you're going to be cutting metal, I would recommend trying one above the 7700.
" for plastic the battery was fully charged it weakened 3"into the cut and got very hot too hot too hold. The way the battery is attached it was coming off on one side I would like to return it and trade up to the 8200 which is lithium this one is ni cad not used much these days unforunately I tossed the box I hope Amazon will accept regardless it's is the least expense of the models maybe I got a bad one regardless what an amazing tool when it functions
At first I was really upset. Especially taking into account it was a new car. But this little device saved me big bucks. Although it took some time to remove all the 'marks' from the body of the car, I was very satisfied with result. I could barely see any hints of remaining scratches.
The only caveat - do not try to use it on matte surfaces.
Comes packaged with a nice miniature (my description lol) charger that works well in small areas. More accessories than I expected which was a pleasant surprise as I had also ordered a grinding accessory kit and picked up another grinding stone locally for $5 to make sure I had enough in case things broke. I did have a fine point grinding stone tip snap off instantly when I tried to use it on finer and smaller components, but this was part of the kit and not what came packaged.
I was considering the much higher priced Milwaukee rotary tool and still wish I had bought it just because it's more heavy duty than this one, but am not remorseful about this purchase either. I was surprised to see the box calling this a step above basic in it's description, but what can ya expect for <$40 for a wireless 2 speed rotary tool that will do the job.
I have cut off metal parts with it and grinded down some as well and it's held up well. As long as you let the tool do the work and don't force it you won't have problems. Considering the soft nature of the metal in my Saiga I am still pleased with the results. The real test will be when I do a Mosin Nagant 91/30 stock conversion next as the metal on it's much tougher in areas I will need to work with. I will probably only do touch up work using the Dremel on it; i.e. sanding down areas in preparation of re-blueing or painting, deburring small areas, etc.
If you're on the fence about this one and just need an everyday type of rotary tool that can do a little of everything then pull the trigger and get ya one. Lower price and decent performance will have this item in my everyday toolbox.
If you need more power than this can provide I would look at the $99 Milwaukee as it's one of the best in this category, you just have to pay for what you get.
Certainly can tell it's high voltage etc.
Con: the high speed option doesn't work at all.
Slow is not slow enough to be honest. Slow is still quite fast
You have to buy separate chucks if the bur you're using is smaller than the chuck provided. I think this dremel should come with all the different size chuck nuts.
Maybe the battery needed to be charged up more, but I let it charge overnight. Will try it again in a few days.
