While the story starts out a little too slow and expository, it quickly develops into something mysterious and interesting. While what was going on became increasingly obvious to me as I read, it was still very well-written. I feel like the transition to the first intimate scene is a little abrupt, however. I had to read over the transitioning paragraph a few times to just feel like I wasn't missing anything.
The heat level is good. The scenes, not just the intimate ones, come alive in exactly the right way. I thought that the move from innocent girl to bondage partner was a little sudden, but it works in the story. I will end the review here as I don't want to spoil anything, but I'll repeat my opinion for anyone on the fence: You should read this book. It's interesting and, yes, dark. It's not perfect, but certainly worth the time and price to read.
