This is a very different type of MC book yet meets all the criteria well. Satan's Knights MC are a true family where everyone has each other's backs.
Stryker was a nomad until he joined the Brooklyn club branch and cemented his allegiance early on. Gina is the sister of a young mob boss but successful through her own hard work as a stockbroker. Working with and competing against men every day has strengthened Gina and made her determined to do well. The chance meeting of these two lead characters is the beginning of a sensual love story.
Through very clear descriptions readers are able to visualise the story and empathise with each character. There is a full range of emotions in play from happiness to anger and fear. Janine Infante Bosco really knows how to entertain and seeing as this is the first book by this author I have read I can guarantee it won't be the last, in fact I'm about to read the next book in the series!
I’m a drifter.
A man born to ride through this world alone.
There used to be a time when I thought I was the rescuing type. I enlisted in the Marines and made it my duty—I was going to save lives.
I was going to be a true American hero.
But God had another plan.
Or maybe Satan did.
For everything I touch finds mortality.
I’m no hero.
I’m a veteran biker, a former nomad who survived war only to live in hell.
Now I ride with the Satan’s Knights of Brooklyn and I’m drifting into a different kind of chaos.
The kind that revolves around a pretty girl with intoxicating green eyes.
A girl who has the power to turn me inside out.
A girl who doesn’t need anyone to rescue her because she’s her own savior.
Until she’s not.
But a man plagued by war and the devil inside him can never be her hero.
Strong. Independent. Fierce.
They are the three things I strived to be.
But sometimes being successful can be lonely.
Sometimes a girl just wants to be a girl and have someone take care of her.
Maybe even love her.
Sometimes the strong become vulnerable.
Or worse, the victor becomes the victim.
Sometimes we lose control or in my case it’s stripped from you.
Defeated. Broken. Haunted.
They are the three things I have become.
In my darkest hour I admit defeat.
In my darkest hour I need one person.
I need him.
I love Janine and it's not because we have the same name, are both from the north (It might be both those things but I'll never really tell) and she's just so darn good at what she writes. I absolutely loved her book Drifter. I didn't read it because I had to review it, I didn't get asked to read it...I just did it for pleasure. PURE PLEASURE!!! Can I tell you that it was better than chocolate? It was. It was better than having a man around but then again book boyfriends usually are. Stryker is one of those characters that grips you from the first page and doesn't let go. He just has so many demons he's fighting and he's doing it on his own. He doesn't want to hurt anyone and I dang near cried when he went through all the things he did (I'm not giving you any spoilers - read it yo self!!) So, everyone is fawning over the cover of this book and that's great because as a person Matthew is awesome but and here's my but...JANINE IS AN AWESOME WRITER!!! Don't forget that. You might buy the book for the cover because let's be honest, some people do but she's got some writing chops. I met her at a signing and she's just as real as she writes on paper. My final thoughts on this book are this...if you aren't 18 - you've been warned that this isn't for the faint of heart. There are topics in this book that are potential triggers for someone that is young but also for those that have been assaulted. I'm throwing that out there because it can cause you to have flashbacks. PTSD is real, it attacks a staggering number of people. This author did an awesome job portraying that. She is now amongst my top 5 authors that I will buy NO matter what and that's saying something. I don't take reviews lightly. If I don't like your book, I either don't review or if I'm asked to, I give a true rating. However, this was my unicorn....
Thank you Janine!!!
Drifter is about a nomad biker named Stryker who joins a New York chapter of a club. There, he meets Gina Spinelli, the daughter of a mob boss who has connections to the club. Each have demons inside that they battle and a chemistry they know they shouldn't explore. Sometimes, though when sparks fly it's hard to stay out its path. Sometimes when you do let it consume you, it's beyond explosive. That is exactly what this book does, it will consume you.
Now....WOW! This book was amazing! It started off feeling like a typical MC romance, and then wham! The heavy stuff hits you in the gut...and then it gets even heavier. The writing was intense and just so very realistic, I felt like O was reading something Janine Infante Bosco had personally been through, which I'm still not sure was a good thing. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, it made my stomach drop down to my toes. This book took me of a fricking roller coaster of incredibly intense emotions....and I loved it! I can't wait to see the next book, though I'm sure it, too, will have its share of dark, gritty emotionally raw scenes.
