The Huot Drill Bit Index holds up to 29 jobber length drill bits in fractional sizes 1/16" to 1/2" in 1/64" increments and is made in USA. The labeled storage holes provide quick identification and organization. The index is made of steel with an epoxy finish and has a snap-lock cover for durability and protection. Drill bits are not included. The index is 7 × 4 × 1.75 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.)

Cutting tool organizers provide storage, organization, and quick size identification for drill bits, taps, and reamers. Organizer types include gauges, indexes (also called cases), dispenser cabinets, carts, towers, racks, and platforms.

I've got a mess of drill bits floating around my work bench, and finally decided I needed to get them all in one place. I knew my dad had a metal drill bit holder that he's had since probably before I was born, but I had no idea where to find one. I tried the orange and green "big box" home improvement stores with no luck, and the Ace Hardware up the street from me didn't have anything like it either. They all sold basic plastic cases that came pre-filled with bits, which is not what I needed.

I figured I'd look on Amazon and bingo! This is EXACTLY what I wanted. It's 100 percent steel, there isn't a speck of paint on it anywhere. All the drill bit labels are stamped into the steel, and each hole is precision made to match each bit. It's very solidly made, I could probably stomp on it and not damage it.

One little feature that surprised me is bit sizes in fractions AND decimals. Every now and then I'll come across a drill bit size reference in decimal and not fractions. Since this has both for each bit, I don't need to dig out a calculator.

When I saw the brand name, Huot, I will admit I initially thought "Oh, some piece of Chinese junk." But then I read that it's made in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has been since 1926. I think this must be the exact same case my dad has which has definitely stood the test of time. Being from Minnesota myself, when I pick it up I feel a little bit of pride inside.

You absolutely NEED to have the large bits in the front. If the small bits were in the front, then they'd be able to fall out of their holes when the box is closed. The row of small bits needs to be mounted in the back-middle of the box so that when laid down the ends of the bits are against the angled wall which keeps them from being able to fall out. You just can't mount the row of small bits in the front-middle and still allow the row of larger bits to hinge.

This is a nice drill case, but in my opinion the internal drill holders are not arranged properly. The only way to get to the inner trays is to pry them up with the tips of the drills (which is literally a pain if you are using it for brad point bits!). I have a similar drill case from a different manufacturer, and it uses small metal links between the racks to lift them up when the lid opens. Otherwise, its a good case.

Huot drill indexes work great and last. Have several that are over 15 years old. Keep your bits safe so no rolling and banging around in a drawer somewhere. And you can quickly find the size you need. This box is for standard jobber length drill bits.

I have three or four of these in my collection and know of no other that matches in quality (granted, not space shuttle stuff). Very sturdy, well designed, and performs like it should. I just bought one for my son and think it will be a most appreciated gift. Currently his index is plastic and a bear to use, plus it will break if opened/closed enough times. This one will last a lifetime!

Well made from nice sturdy sheet metal and holds all my drill bits without them rattling or falling out if the case is dropped or turned upside down. also has all the sizes labelled in decimal notation if you need that (I'm an engineer who works in mils quite a lot, so I could see that being useful, but in my case I ordered this for home use).

It used to be a joke just to find a specific size drill bit in the jumble of bits that I have. This cleaned all that up and I am amazed how stupid I'd been for not getting one sooner. It's so easy to find the right size bit for the job that it's almost a pleasure instead of the dreaded pile of bits it used to be.
