With this brief declaration, the drakul known as Gray gives us his essential self. Gray is one with Caleb Jansen, whose lover, John Starkweather, is a special agent for SPECTR, a sort of federal policing agency for paranormal activity. In this third book of the second SPECTR series, John and Caleb and Gray, along with their rookie partner Zahira, are up against the most difficult NHE (Non-Human Entity) ever.
NHEs don’t exist in our world; they must be called by someone human, and humans are notoriously naïve when it comes to understanding what happens to a spirit when it is wrenched into a human body. Find the flawed human and you find the demon and its source. If our team can catch the NHE before forty days have passed, they can save the human host and Gray gets a snack.
Trouble is, even though Caleb and Gray and John essentially saved the entire SPECTR bureau a while back, they’re being treated like outcasts and troublemakers. Only a very few agents – including Zahira Noorzay – appreciate Gray and his relationship with Caleb and John. Gray and Caleb are the only known possessed pair who have not lost themselves in madness. Add to that Gray’s immense power and great age, and you have the stuff of nightmares—until you get to know him.
Tension mounts as the latest NHE wreaks havoc in quaint Charleston, and our friends feel the stress. John is a loyal SPECTR agent, and seeing the men he loves mistreated and reviled hurts him. But his unbending loyalty to the agency makes it difficult for Caleb and Gray. How can they find a way to just be themselves?
That’s where the story gets really interesting, and the results are explosive.
Oh, this isn’t over, is it? I had assumed this was the last of this series, but I don’t think so. How could it be?

To those who have not yet have read a book by Jordan Hawk. How sad I feel for you. I understand how this might happen, as we all sometimes let a good author slip by. But if you have not picked up a Wybornne and Griffin book or a SPECTR book, I appeal to you to do so!
Ms Hawke has begun this series with quite an over active imagination; which I adore. The ‘what about this’ theory, takes the reader into dimensions of fantasy, that cannot be imagined and we follow her….like slaves.
SPECTR is an agency that handles cases of paranormal danger. It is a time where humans recognize there are demons, ghouls and things that go bump in the night. We now have an agency to have all paranormals register. Caleb was an unregistered para. From the first you see his rebellion to rules and regulations. John Starkweather is a federal agent along with being an exorcist. Wow, couldn’t be better, Then comes Gray and the beginning.
We are now into our sixth adventure with series 1 and 2. Again Ms. Hawk packs another punch to our senses. Could something be bigger and badder than Gray? Just when we had been lulled into the Invincible Trio?
Again, the new story is very strong, a great adventure laden with too many spoilers to discuss. With it though it brought us a new cast of characters for the next adventure. I am addicted to the story, love the relationship of the three and cannot wait for more.
4 ½ stars
I find that I am getting a bit annoyed with John in his just standing by when Caleb and Gray are treated so badly, never really standing up for them and alway taking the side of Spectr.
Quiet frankly I would be happy if Caleb and Gray made a break for freedom and if John couldn't take that chance then he doesn't deserve them.
I think that the new characters would be very good for both Gray and Caleb
Have a feeling though that I won't see this happening, pity about that.
