Dull, need thimble to use

I am home making dozens of masks. Ran short of pins. My old pins (same brand) will easily slide through 2 layers of quilting fabric and elastic sandwiched together. The new pins are so hard to go through the layers I must use a thimble as to not hurt my fingers. They also tend to warp and bend in the process. With effort it will go through just two layers of fabric, but not smoothly. I have found only about 1 in 10 pins works well. I presume it is that they are just not appropriately sharp. Usually a quality brand that I have used for decades...not sure what happened with these.

These pins are so dull they are hard to push through simple cotton fabric used for face masks. I have had to throw many away because they would not go through the fabric and bent out of shape. Getting the point through the fabric is your first problem. It doesn't get any better once the point is through. You have to fight to get these pins through fabric from the point on.

I purchased these pins because I have some that I purchased years ago and have never had a problem with. I don't think I have had to throw one away because it bent out of shape. I've used them a lot. They are still as sharp as the day I purchased them. I know it's not the fabric because if I replace the pin that's giving me an issue with one of the older pins, it just glides right through the fabric. I can tell the difference between the old and the new pins because the ball on the older pins is darker.

I don't know what changed, but the quality of these pins has gone down. If I had realized this I would not have ordered them. If it weren't for the fact that it would cost almost as much to send them back as it did to purchase them, I would return them. I definitely won't be buying any Dritz products again. They used to stand for quality, I can't say that's the case today.

Lotta Dull Pins

I had no idea, having not sewn in awhile, that pins could be of questionable quality. These pins, while a nice size and with easy to see yellow beads, are mostly dull. Every once in awhile I poke one through the fabric that turns out to be sharp, and that’s so rare that it reminds me that most of them are dull, some to the point of bending on use. Maybe I just got a bad batch. I am using these on one layer of quilting cotton and one layer of used bed sheets as I make fabric face masks, so we’re not talking corduroy here.

Won't go through 1 layer of fabric

I cannot get them to go through 1 layer of fabric. I tried about 50 of them, throwing away each one as I went. I am not going to try any more because every single one tried was not sharp. I love the length of the quilting pin and was very surprised that Dritz had such poor quality pins. I knew I had a project that would need extra pins so I ordered them early enough to guarantee shipping. Unfortunately the time to return them has expired.

I'm cranking out pleated face masks. Short pins just don't cut it when you're trying to snatch out the pin before your needle hits it. These are perfect; they also make stabilizing the nose piece easy and reliable.
I do wish, however, that they came in different colors. I get that yellow is highly visible. But I don't particularly like yellow. Wouldn't a lovely teal be nice? Or fuscia?! :o)

Love these pins because the length is longer than most straight pins. I LOVE THAT. I find them easier to use pushing them through two layers of fabric or more. They are sharp enough to pierce two layers of iron-on interfacing on fabrics so that is one tough pin. It is not fragile. It's a work horse. If you are sewing lots of face masks, get these and you will not be sorry. I promise you. I have 1,000 of these pins on hand and ALWAYS use these. They are my GO-TO PINS! Dritz makes quality straight pins. They do not bend easily. Their ball heads make it easy to pick up and to push into fabric layers. Buy them! You won't be sorry that you did! Will buy again from this seller. Came fast!

I bought these because they're the brand that I inherited from my Grandma, but unfortunately, they're not quite as nice, despite being the same as those from years ago (like, wayyy back); however, they do the trick for most normal fabrics. Though, I must say, I wouldn't (and I repeat... WOULD NOT) use these on satin, or silk, or anything prone to being ruined by a needle not quite sharp enough to go through without ruining your lovely fancy fabrics.

Now, on a separate note--I have no had a chance to try their 'extra fine' pins, which would hopefully do the trick on your more fragile fabrics.
I'll have to give those a try in the future, though I'll be doing some testing on the salvage areas instead of on an actual project in progress just to be sure they're the pins for you.

The pins are long, sharp and thin which allows me to put them through just about anything. I think in all the years that I've used them, I've had maybe 10 heads come off...after much abuse. 10 out of thousands is a most acceptable ratio.
