YOU CAN FIX THIS (MOST of the time): Not to take away sales but... The problem stems from the bend against the DVD drive edge. The metallic finish apparently rubs off at some spot or other and it makes contact with the metallic tape/ground. I took a small piece of electrical tape, and taped the edge of the DVD drive, under this cable, and problem SOLVED. Good luck. Let me know if this works for you! :)

My Macbook quit working and got a folder with a question mark in it when I tried to start it back up. The Apple store diagnosed the hard drive as bad. I replaced the hard drive. Then I got the posix error message. I googled it and then learned about the hard drive cable. This cable fixed the problem. The only problem I had was the getting the IR sensor connected. It is tiny. I called the seller, wegenermedia.com, and they were very helpful. If you lift up gently under the back of the IR sensor connector on the hard drive cable it pops up and lets the ribbon connector from the computer go in. Be careful, it is fragile.

I wanted to repair my old macbook to help a friend out, but the IR sensor did not fit while the old cable did. Maybe it is a manufacturer defect, so I'll be returning it and order a new one. (I did not forget to flip the switch to insert it.) I attached the photos for the original cable vs the purchased cable (with FoxxCon Label).

Computer began running very slowly, looking in the console I noticed read right failure on disk zero which is the primary hard drive in the MacBook Pro. Replace hard drive thinking it was the hard drive went to format and partition a new drive and got the following errors. Unable to unmount drive, unable to probe drive, POSIX error unable to allocate memory. My MacBookPro now works great after replacing this cable. Thanks Amazon.

Had a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13" that was displaying the "folder with a question mark in it" on every boot up. Running Disk Utility from OSX install CD couldn't even find an internal hard drive, but when I removed the internal hard drive and connected it via USB I was able to boot from it. Replacing this cable fixed the problem perfectly.

Very nice cable. Fixed the issue. Careful, when removing the cable, unplug the battery first. Second, you will have to unstick the IR sensor and remove the tiny cable, There is a tiny unlock clip opposite the cable; just pick up and you can slide out the cable, Reverse to install. I also add a small ball of hot glue to keep the bottom cover from hitting the cable. Good luck!

I freaked when I got a question mark folder and my mid-2012 MacBook Pro wouldn't boot up. Ended up creating a bootable USB but that was a temporary fix. Luckily, found out about the issue with the hard drive cable on a different forum, and decided to give it a try. I was scared to death, but it worked great. Toughest part was disconnecting the little gold cable/wire thing near the IR sensor. But somehow I did it. Mac Powerbook powered up and booted up without issue. Didn't even have to reinstall my OS. Woohoo! Bought the tools here on Amazon, too. http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-2977-Phillips-Precision-Screwdriver/dp/B008TM1910?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

When my mabook started to have some problems, I panicked and thought immediately worst case scenario... that my computer was going to crash soon at a time when I really can't afford to replace it. At the advice of a friend, I bought this cable and it got my computer going full speed immediately! This cable seems a little bit more durable and well made than the factory cable that needed to be replaced. This was also VERY easy to install!
