This commode was ordered for a 135 lb. 86 yr. old. We thought the padded seat would be more comfortable than a regular. The way the seat is shaped causes her body to fall to the center and is uncomfortable to the point she can't use it. It was also very hard to adjust the height. In addition, the company advertised that it would match the lowest price which is ten dollars less than they charged. When contacted they refused to match the price. We've had drive products before - walker and wheelchair that have been fine.

The right-side drop arm did, indeed, drop when my 92 year-old mother leaned on it to stabilize her body before standing up the first time she used the commode. As a result, she sustained a deep cut in her right finger. I returned this product immediately and do not recommend it because it is potentially dangerous.

WARNING: For anyone who uses this item independently and relies heavily on upper body strength to push up from this commode, PLEASE BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL as the ARM LATCHES WILL BUCKLE UNDER PRESSURE WITHOUT WARNING and you will hurt your hand very badly. If you are expecting the arms to stay in place while pushing down on them, they will release and the force of your whole body weight goes crashing down on your hand into the metal latch. Not only is it extremely painful, if your balance is also not good and your reflexes are slow, you will fall on the ground. I do not wiggle or push out on it to unlatch it. I only weight 135 lbs and it can't even handle my body size so for anyone else who is heavier, you could really do some damage. I have only owned this for 4 months, but I am unable to return it because of the Amazon return policy, so it is going STRAIGHT IN THE GARBAGE as it is not worth getting seriously injured just because I spent so much money on this poorly designed product. If you are looking for a higher priced commode with a wider stance and cushion on your tush, this does the job. The arms unclasp to allow you side access if you are in a wheelchair, but if you are a caretaker, DO NOT assume that you can use the arm rest to steady or brace yourself.

A very sturdy and weighty piece of medical equipment. The back needs to be made comfortable for those sitting longer on the seat. Even though it is padded, which is fine for quick trips, longer periods of time sitting is uncomfortable. The arms and back are hardly worth calling padded with the skimpy amount of padding on them. The seat is cushy, at first.

We bought this commode 8 months ago for sudden events (after experiencing an unforgettable intestinal flu 2 years ago). My husband is over 6 feet tall and weighs 250 pounds. The sudden event occurred 2 days ago when he fell and hurt both his knees. I was able to position the commode next to the chair or bedside to be available without his having to walk. He said it is comfortable and sturdy. It is easy to clean. I tried it over our "right height" toilet, as it says in the description and it fit. We are very happy with this purchase.

This is a very sturdy and comfortable commode which is priced right. As a bedside commode it is probably 5 stars. I was really looking for a commode that I could position over a toilet and I chose this one because it was clear that it could be easily modified for my purpose. Most commodes sold for this purpose have armrests or frame structure which interfere with the user's ability to clean one's self after making a deposit into the toilet. This one is very accessible. I added casters so a caregiver could roll me over the toilet and made a simple modification to allow me to release the drop arm and swing it completely out of the way giving me a 5 star version of just what I wanted!

Sturdy seat fits over standard toilet. New amputee can use walker to go to restroom and sit on this seat. Height allows easier standing. Before we got this chair, I had to lift off toilet with a gait belt under arms. Somewhat painful and not good for my back. The chair is easy to lift off toilet to use toilet normally. Splash tube extends from seat into toilet bowl to direct flow.

Also useful in shower. Getting into the shower using a walker is difficult. Just ordered a transfer chair to make that easier.

Fold down arms on chair may be useful in shower. They latch in up position for use pushing off to stand up. Putting weight on arms to stand makes them move a little. I put a lot of weight on each arm to make sure it would hold. A little mechanical play is a bit unnerving but the arms have latched securely every time.

There is a removable bucket if the toilet is too far to reach. It could be used bed side.

Wish this chair was not needed, but it was a good choice given the circumstances.
