So, there is this girl named Rylee that loses her fiancee and kind of crawls into herself to escape the pain. I get it, I have been there! Then, she's at work, gets locked in a closet, gets rescued by a hottie named Colton and then practically lets him do whatever to her as a thank you. She then finds out that he's basically a sociopath so she sleeps with him.
I don't understand this. I understand that she is stifled and this guy brings her out; but then she discovers that he is a liar, manipulator, and all around jerk so she sleeps with him? Yeah, sounds perfect for the girl that is trying to prove that she has value.
After sleeping with him the first time, he breaks her heart.and she leaves in tears. What does she do? Sleeps with him 2 more times. TWICE more! EACH. TIME. SHE. LEAVES. CRYING. She's stupid and deserves what he does to her.
OHHHH~ and she has unprotected sex with him. Because a doctor told her she would have a hard time getting pregnant. Know what those women are called later in life? Single moms.
Really, ALL this book is a miserable story wrapped around 2 miserable people so the author can write about sex. It ends with an absolutely horrific scene that is supposed to leave you wanting more. All it left me was hoping that all the people involved die in a fiery crash so they can be put out of their misery.
Seriously, I wanted to find Rylee and give her the number for her local pregnancy care center~ bc she's going to need it.
I can NOT believe that this goes on for 2 more books!!! We are supposed to hang on bc the sex scenes are hot? I am not buying it. If I wanted to read about girls allowing themselves to be treated like fodder by a man I would watch the local news.
"I sag against the wall of the elevator in frustration. He gets me so worked up. So angry. I can't figure out what I want to do more, punch him or f*&^ him."
I love a story filled with angst, lots of heavy emotions and an almost desperate need the characters have for each other. Colton Donovan delivers all this and more. Colton. Damn. He is a hot, sexy race car driver with a dark past and ISSUES. He was adopted by Hollywood celebrities and found himself in racing. He is such a complicated character and just when you think he is going to change or do something expected, he completely surprises you and leaves you gutted and crying or sighing, wishing you were the girl he wants to be his.
Rylee isn't your typical do-gooder, she has a past full of tragedy and has let her guilt define her for far too long. She isn't Colton's "type", she doesn't do casual and she feels deeply. Rylee and Colton meet and it is instant attraction for her but she fights it HARD. She "thinks" she understands the type of man Colton is and she tries to stay away, but temptation is too much for her to resist and she dives in and realizes she is in over her head with this man. I love that Rylee is real, she has real expectations when getting involved with Colton, but sometimes the heart wants what the mind tells us is going to end badly.
" 'This isn't a Hollywood romance movie, Haddie. The good girl doesn't get the bad boy to change his ways and fall madly in love with her.' "
Colton and Rylee and the cast of characters around them make a story that kept me entertained, invested and oblivious to my life outside of Driven. K. Bromberg does an amazing job getting her readers emotions involved with her style of writing. I felt everything along with Rylee; the confusion, lust, heartache and free falling feeling of letting go and letting your heart lead.
"I need this connection with him like I need sunlight. For when we touch like this, when I feel him like this, I have no doubt that I can do this. That I can be what he needs me to be for however long he'll allow it. For the chance to be with him, to remain under his spell, I will push my needs aside and bury them."
Driven is a seriously amazing story. K. Bromberg managed to tell an intense story without rushing it and without dragging it out too long. Unfortunately, this is the FIRST book in a series and I knew that going into this story, but I wasn't prepared for the book to end and wasn't ready to let go of Rylee and Colton. I found myself nervously looking at the percentage done in the story and hoping that it was wrong but like all good things, they must come to an end. What an ending too!! HOLY S*** this ending will shred you and leave you screaming that there is NO WAY an author could do that to her readers.... but she did. K. Bromberg has probably delivered the best cliff hanger ending to a series in a book I have ever read (and I read a LOT of trilogies). I will admit to immediately emailing her and begging her to tell me when the next book will come out like a crazy stalker. (it is August 2013, btw).
This book is a DEFINITE 1-click! This book is so good that I will personally buy it for the first TWO people who leave a comment for this review and promise to spread the word of for this amazing book. (I am trusting you will do this, don't let me down)
Congratulations K. Bromberg, you wrote a book that I can not stop thinking about and wishing August would get here soon! I will be pouting in the corner and trying to find something else to read that can fill the hole that Colton left behind. Sigh.
