Mason, our stubborn/ambitious/intelligent/perfectly arrogant, hero is definitely worthy of the title Book Boyfriend. Unlike many in recent books, he's a bit selfish, without being a total jerk who needs the love of a good woman to be decent. His intelligence is at the forefront, and dang it, he likes hard work. [Insert swoon worthy sigh here] plus give me six-two of ripped bod and chiseled any day.
Kayla - our heroine is loyal, sassy, and strong. I'm not a fan of the damsel in distress who just wants someone to take care of her. This woman is independent, and knows what she wants.
The two of them fit. They make sense.
The book does have graphic sex scenes, but instead of pure porn, they're sexy, and truly erotic. The connection between the two characters was very well written.
Definitely worth reading.
Series: Southern Alphas
Note: Book 1
Author: Lori Sjoberg
This is my review of Driven , the first book in the Southern Alphas Series. I got this book in the series free through Amazon and this is my honest review. Despite the length it does move at a good pace and keeps you interested. This is the story of Mason who is a tough and hard worker who has made it to the top and wants to stay there even if it means convincing a woman to sell her land to him for his latest developments. Mason is willing to do anything to convince her. Kayla is the woman who holds the land Mason wants and refuses to sell it because she inherited it from her Grandfather and is trying to keep it from going into foreclosure. She was an elite jumper until she had an accident that she fought her way to recovery and does not want to lose the farm that she has put so much work into, especially when they didn't know if she would be able to even walk again. In order to get Mason to basically put up or shut up she ends up with a wager to try to save the farm and bets Mason that he can't live and work like a farmer for 2 weeks. If he wins, Kayla sells him the ranch at the current proposal, if she wins, Mason pays off her current mortgage and leaves her (and the farm) alone. Kayla didn't count on developing feelings towards the bull headed and stubborn man. I really enjoyed this book and while I would love to tell you more about it that would just ruin the book for you, get it and read it yourself :)
Stubborn vs Determined - 5 stars
This is the first book I have had the pleasure of reading by Ms. Sjoberg. It has a really good storyline and very strong characters, both primary and secondary. Enough that I can hardly wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. Kayla inherited the family farm from her grandfather, but she is holding on by a thread, due to the loans that her grandfather had to take out when she had a very serious accident years before. Mason wants to buy the land that her farm sits on to build a huge development complex and her piece of land is the lynch-pin that everything is hanging on.
When the sparks fly between the two of them, who will survive the eventual flames? I don't want to give spoilers, so pick this one up as soon as you can. It is well worth the purchase and the time to read it. I'm looking forward to reading Carter's story, to find out who broke his heart and caused him to join the Marines and leave his family. Ms. Sjoberg has a very good style of writing and making the character believable.
**Honest review voluntarily provided for purchased product.**
Mason Falcon and his brother were raised in the foster care system. They worked hard and became extremely successful businessmen. They are committed to a real estate project where they are able to buy up all of the farms in the area except for one. That one is crucial to their development because it's right in the middle and they can't proceed with their plans until the owner sells to them. Even though they offer a fair price and more, that owner, Kayla Phillips, won't sell.
Kayla Phillips inherited her farm from her grandfather. She works very hard from morning til night, but is hanging on by a thread meeting the mortgage payments and other bills. Kayla was an elite horse jumper but had a terrible accident and is lucky now that she can walk. With the hospital and rehab bills, she is trying her best to just get by. Her younger sister is going to school to be a veterinarian so can't help much. With all these burdens to carry, Kayla makes a wager with Mason in hopes of saving her horse farm.
Read the book to find out what happens with the farm, the real estate development, and the growing attraction between Mason and Kayla.
I look forward to reading more by this author.
