For a Device that is as far as I can tell the First of it's kind, it is a GREAT Idea. The execution of that idea........needs some work.
64GB eMMC Storage?????? Seriously NOT enough. 128 would have been preferred. As the Picture Shows, you only have 46.5GB left to play with. Right now, I am down to around 14GB because I am having to Install to USB or MicroSD/TF. Also, Speed of the eMMC is not that good.
If you get the Settings right, you can Play a good amount of Games. I think it would have been preferred to have Windows 7 instead of 10. Windows 8.1 even better.
The L/R1 Buttons seem like they are too loose. you can feel them get slightly stuck if you wiggle them at the right spot.
If it is Off and you Plug in the Power Cord and then try to Turn it ON........you get the GPD Screen........then you get a Charging Screen and it Shuts Off. In order to Power the Device up, you have to Unplug and then turn it on and wait for the Windows Screen to come up before Plugging it in.
The MicroSD/TF Card Reader need to be replaced. I have a brand new Samsung 200GB MicroSD/TF Card and it runs so slow. It takes it about 5-10 Seconds to Open or Load Files off of it. I put the Card in my PC, and it works perfectly. However, for improvements, you need to change the Settings from Optimized to Performance.
The Rubber Joystick Covers on BOTH Joysticks is coming off. Dont know if it can be seen in the Picture, but there is a slight rip on it.
The 360 Controller Mode (Slide Switch to the Right for XInput Mode) needs to have a way of being permanently Running on it. In order to use it, you have to have it Switched over PRIOR to running any Game or Application. Otherwise, you run the Game, then Switch it, it will not detect it.
GPD needs to start also Selling Replacement Parts and Specially Made Covers/Skins for it's Products. What if the Battery Goes Dead? I have a GPD XD and the Battery is crapping out on me. I just Turned it on, and the Battery was dropping 1% every 15-20 Seconds. So if the GPD Win Battery goes Bad, what Replacement will work with it????? It can be Replaced if carefully Removed. So if I need to, what Battery will work with it????
So far, the Compatible Parts are the following:
Directional Pad: O3DS XL / N3DS XL
Joystick: 2nd Gen Vita or Vita 2000 as it is also known as.
Users also need to be careful with what Games they Install. I tried installing Blazing Angels 1 and 2 on this, but they would not run. Also BA1 Installed 4 DLL Files that Windows did not agree with due to the Digital Signature could not be Verified and it I could not Start Up the Device. So if a Game has StarForce, SecureDisk, you will have Problems.
Edit: I opened up the Device to get a Picture of the Motherboard to find out the Storage Chip type, only to find the Battery is expanding. I hardly use the Device. When I do use it, I have it on the Charger, but I dont use it that much. due to the Keyboard not working after a while when running Games or Emulators using the XInput. They need to start Selling the Batteries for the GPD XD and Win on here and Ebay. Not some Site no one has ever heard of.
Honestly when I bought this, I wasn't expecting much, perhaps some old retro games and emulators but nothing else. Imagine my surprise when I was able to power Skryim on this thing. Amazingly enough the game on low 800x600 resolution ran around 30 FPS, completely playable. More demanding titles were able to run like Bulletstorm: Full Clip edition but even on the lowest settings and resolution it was barely playable to around 20 fps. Even so it was able to run the games.
The build quality of this device is honestly top notch, the hinge for the screen feels fairly sturdy, the buttons have good feedback though rather small, and the controller portion works like a charm. As long as the game doesn't require a lot of joystick pressing, as the R3 and L3 buttons are on the bottom right hand corner, this controller will do the trick. The top finish however is prone to finger prints and smudges, and overall, the keyboard was too small yet wide for me to thumb type comfortably. However for a short browser search or quick name input into a character creation, it gets the job done.
Lastly, the reason I am giving this device 4 stars instead of 5 is the heat. Even with the user controlled single fan on full blast, this device gets HOT. With some titles the heat got bad enough that I had to put down the device to let it cool off. Surprising amount of heat for such a small pc. Even doing some basic things like web browing (which I wouldn't recommend getting this device if that is your main use for it) it would run a bit hot even with the fan on.
Overall I think this device is great for tech enthusiasts who love the latest and greatest gadgets, or people who want to introduction PC game on a VERY strict budget. As long as you keep your expectations low enough to be surprised, this device will leave you in aw at it's capabilities. Mind you, you won't get getting MLG pro on this thing, but for a couple quick games here and there and on the go, it does a great job.
The package also came quick with no issue, this seller is awesome as well.
You'll have to set your expectations before getting the win. This will not play anything past xbox 360 era games. It won't do any heavy lifting for any editing projects either. But, for word documents, emails, and games, it works fantastic! Definitely worth the money.
CON. its get hot and the battery life is not as good as gpd xd and some game will have slow down .
ps . try not to close the system alot u can break the screen doing that ,this stuff happen to gpd xd and nvidia shield does . ur best bet is to just close when your done using it . don't just close it and open back open every time used it .
