Right out of the box it worked great, but with the wall charger, it will take 6-8 hours to charge. I have a speed charger, and at 1.5A it charged in about an hour. The Battery lasted about 20 minutes of run time.
Day 2. charged the battery overnight and my son went and started playing with it in the driveway. 10 minutes later he comes in and it isn't working any longer. I popped open the car, and the Motor had gotten so hot that the solder on the motor leads had reflowed and come loose!! I took it to the hobby shop and they told me the motor had burned up, and they were out, and motors were on back order (Hmmmm).
On Monday, I called warranty and customer service, and said they would send me a new motor after they got more in stock, they were out (Huh?). I ended up ordering one from an online store and got it, installed it (not real difficult, but pay attention to alignment!),
Day 5-7; Off and running, ran for several days. Took it to local hobby track to race, and in the third race, the motor got so hot that the solder re-flowed on the wires on the motor. Day done. Got home, soldered them back on, motor toast. Got the one from the mfg the day before, so I slapped it in and we were off running.
Day 8 - called warranty, they are sending another new motor, and ESC controller. I asked about the motor problem, and the tech rep said that typically they dont see two motors fail in a vehicle, and that is why they sent to me the ESC controller to replace.
Its a neat car, low cost. I purchased a heat sink to place on the motor to help dissipate the heat and will keep an extra motor (or 2) on hand (they cost about $9ea). it wont run well in grass more than a 1/4" tall, definitely a hard service and dirt track vehicle.
As long as Revell keeps replacing parts on their nickel, I will keep running it.
I saw a comment about a break in period for the motor, running it at 1/2 throttle for a period of time, but my instructions didnt say anything about that. I did a little research and couldn't find anything either. I'm not sure of its validity.
There are several upgrade kits, one is a better motor, but it is a $90 kit. before a put that kind of money into it, I will upgrade to a 1/10 Traxxus slash.
For a starter, its ok. Im really disappointed in the issues, but the company is sending me the parts I need at no charge when I have a break.
Its better than a $50-$60 dollar walmart NewBright by far.
You can control the Max Speed setting in the controller by adjusting the throttle dual rate. this slows it down and isnt nearly as demanding on the motor. Still running for now. Heading back to the track this weekend and we will see how it performs.
Was also worried that it'd be too fast for in the house (since it's snowing like mad) But it's got the ability to turn down the throttle and steering so it's much more tame. Even my 4 year old was zooming it around the house!
I'm getting me one now! Love it!
4 Stars because the quality is there just maybe the assembly is a bit sloppy. Keep an eye on it and it should last a long time.
Also decent run time on the nicads.
I bought all three basic entry lvl 1/18 scale trucks for my 5, 6, and 7 year old. I wanted something that i could upgrade for them and fix as things break (unlike walmart, target, bestbuy ect.. where if you break it there done with) first off i was happy to find my local hobby stores carred in stock almost all replacement and upgrade parts for these.. so no wsiting for mail order stuff.
1. can be repaired or upgraded
2. Can find parts and support at most local hobby stores.
3. Full trim on controll so can adjust speed and turnes for newbies.
4. Built stronger then retail store bs rc cars.
5. Best value for under $100 i have ever seen.
6. 4x4 awesome traction.
1. **Wall charger for battery pack way under power to full chargr pack!!!
2. Small size does not run well in uncut crass.
3. Shocks could have been a bit stiffer for landing, but can always upgrade
I would give given these rc a 5 out of 5 stars if it was not for the under power wall charger.. and after reading some reviews i was not the only one.. the wall charger has problem fully cycling the 6 cell 7.2v 1300 mah batteries.. even though the charger shows the battery is fully charge it is no where close to it. The charges just dont have the power to break the cell memory that batteries can get..
solution.. hate to say it.. but need a real charger.. nothing special just about $20 to $30 charger that any local hobby store can suggest for you.. or a local habby shop will offer to full cycal charge for you... the down side to this, is about every 3 to 10 charges you will need a full charge from your shop.. better just to buy a charger and use it all the time and will make your battery last longer.. also another pro to buying a better charger, is charge time.. stock charger takes 4 to 6 hours and does not fully charge your battery.. an upgrade charger should fully charge about 35-50 min.. also side not with these batteries like all like it.. always store battery fully charge.. amd never charge battery wile they are still warm or hot..
when all said and done.. even with the charge thing.. i would still buy more of these and highly reconmend!! I dont beleive there is a better value for any rc car in the price range.. top of class!
