A Look Inside The Drop 10 Diet
Ashley Sherry, 32, of Charlotte, North Carolina, lost 13 pounds with the Drop 10 Diet. "The Drop 10 fitness cards were like my own personal trainer," she says.

MOTIVATION: When Sherry moved to a new town in 2009, she tried a lot of the local restaurants during the next year--and put on 15 pounds in the process. Planning a trip to Hawaii in 2011 spurred her to get beach-ready.

PAYOFF: Sherry did Drop 10 toners and upped her cardio to match our plan. The combo delivered sexy curves in time for her to rock a bikini on vacation—and her guy proposed before the trip! She can't wait to wow him in a figure-hugging wedding gown next month.

Hannah Levbarg, 38, of Cerrillos, New Mexico, lost 18 pounds and four inches off her waist on the Drop 10 Diet. "The Drop 10 recipes helped me lose while eating foods I love," she says.

MOTIVATION: After being treated for an ovarian tumor two years ago, Levbarg decided to make wellness a priority, but she struggled to balance a healthful diet with her passion for gourmet cooking (and eating).

PAYOFF: The Drop 10 dishes satisfied this foodie and kept her portions in check. Levbarg learned that some of her favorite foods, such as nuts and grains, have slimming superpowers. She plans to peel off 20 pounds more. "It's a way of life for me now," she says.

I have been a devotee of self magazine and their periodic Drop 10 diets for about 2 years. I won't say I've lost a ton of weight, but it has helped me transition from the shakes-smoothies diet plan I was on to real food, maintain my weight loss and live a permanently healthy lifestyle. The superfood diet IS EXCELLENT.

I always feel great with this diet, and I look good too. What I love about SELF's website diets is that they are simple recipes, come with a shopping list and the workouts are great. They email you the day's recipes everyday, which I've been copying onto index cards.

I thought the book would be a backup for the recipes on my index cards in case I lost them. The book is more background information on why the foods in the diet are so good for you and the recipes are geared for those weekends when you feel like baking a batch of healthy muffins ("for the whole family"). The language of the book gets tiresome with all the "zapping off pounds" and "scorching" calories. It also includes tables and tables of calories in foods if you eat out, which can come in handy (but which are readily available online).

The workout in the book is a killer workout that I've been doing for a couple years that was their workout for Drop10 Diet 2010.

What's missing is the step-by-step "make it easy for me" that make their internet diets so amazing. Also, I'm a superfood devotee and yet didn't find the book inspiring or energizing. Just sort of informational. No shopping lists, no recipes like they have on the site.

The best thing to do is to sign up for their Drop10 workouts at their site, and do your own record keeping.

This book is good as an ADJUNCT to their Drop10 diets on the SELF site, not instead of it.

I bought this book after reading an article about in Self magazine. This book is a total waste of time and money. I expected a diet plan. What it is is a list of foods and recipes plus "success" stories. There is so real "plan" here. Nothing to describe portion sizes or how many servings per day.If you want the basic plan save your money and buy the April issue of Self magazine. This book is being returned today.

Despite its title, this book focuses more on a healthy way of eating for life than presenting a short-term "lose 10 pounds diet." The author notes that she eats this way about 80 percent of the time, a healthy approach that still allows for the days/times/events when other foods must come into play in our lives. Drop 10 sounds like a diet fad--a misleading title in this case, and it would have kept me from considering the book had I not seen the author interviewed on a news program and was intrigued by the food info she presented.

My high rating reflects that I was pre-informed on the book's premise before purchasing and it met my expectations.

Though some have felt that the SELF magazine article had the same info, I found otherwise. I do not normally read magazines, but I checked out a friend's copy to compare. While the article lists the same foods, the book has much more information regarding the benefits of the foods. Saying to me "eat two kiwi a day, they are good for you and just 42 calories each" is far different than telling me specifically what eating two kiwi a day will do for me. If you appreciate the detailed information, the book may be your better choice. There is truly no comparison between the couple of lines on each food that the articles presents and the couple of pages the book presents. For instance, when the book presents a food like kiwi, it offers info from studies following people who eat two kiwi a day: how the inclusion of two a day affects cholesterol, heart health, metabolism. Or eggs: overweight women trying to lose weight lost more when they included two eggs a day in their diet. Concerned about cholesterol? The book addresses that too.

I just read the Drop 10 Diet book and I am excited about adding the 30 superfoods to my current diet. I think the earlier reviews were too harsh. The 30 superfoods are backed up by well documented clinical research. I have only been on the plan a few days and I already feel better. I am very full after meals and have been able to cut down on unhealthy snacking. I think it is easy to incorporate the superfoods into a diet. I like the flexability of the plan. The just of it- It allows for 1600 calories a day, eat as many of the superfoods as possible to get the biggest benefit. The plan got me to purchase new foods, some that I have never even heard of. The food taste very good and I do not feel like I am on a diet but rather a very healthy eating plan. Several clients report loosing 9 or 10 pounds in 5 weeks,,,, I look forward to the same success.

The book is exactly what I was looking for... it simplifies everything -- easy and tasty breakfasts are 350 calories, lunches and dinners are at 450, with an optional mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. I knew that there had to be a plan where one could eat healthier and still enjoy the food and not starve, and this is it!!! There is an explanation of why certain foods work and how they work and why. There are alternatives if you don't like a certain item. So far, I've been very pleased with all the ideas, tips, suggestions, recipes, etc. and I'm feeling full and great. One does have to do some cooking, but it is simple cooking and there are even alternatives to that! I feel so good and so full after each meal, I'm able to eat less. The book has the crucial information: for example, about why fiber makes a difference, why artificial sugar is not a good idea (an offers alternatives to it) and lots of other help that a rational person who takes the time to look within will appreciate!! This is truly a chance to live life, eat, exercise, and be healthy. I highly recommend this book! I am updating my review, because in the long run, it didn't help me lose the weight I wanted.
