Editorial Reviews

With roots in the hardcore scene and a wide-range of influences (their very name is a direct reference to one of their musical forefathers, The Movielife), This Time Next Year presents their sophomore full-length album for Equal Vision. Drop Out Of Life was produced by Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory) and showcases a more mature and darker side of the band than we have seen on previous releases.

I was very hesitant to purchase this album not hearing any of the tracks before hand, but I decided to give it a shot. I wasn't too big of a fan of their previous album due to the lack of production value and the fact it sounded like it was recorded in a garage. "Drop Out of Life" is a huge surprise. The quality of the production on here is top notch. It's not overdone either, it's a perfect blend of raw and studio forged into one. I'll be the first to say this is a lot more "pop-punkish" then "punk".

This album easily ranks up among a lot of the better pop-punk bands today like Neverstore, Cartel, Call It Fiction, and New Found Glory. These songs all have very catchy hooks and meaningful lyrics. There are a few tracks I don't really care too much for but not enough to merit it being any less than 5 stars. It's true that some of the songs sound pretty similar, especially with the drummer counting off on the cymbals before every song but each chorus is unique enough to distinguish it from the rest of the bunch.

A few stand out tracks to me are "Drop Out of Life," "Living Hell," "Matchbook," "Get It, Got it, Good" and "This Is An Airport Train." I'm not going to lie, I don't think any track comes close to the brilliance of the opening track "Drop Out of Life." This album is really solid for throwing on repeat all day. I highly recommend it to any pop-punk fan. You won't be disappointed. This is how pop-punk should sound and I'm glad I took a chance with this album.

Overall: 4.5/5

As the title states, I actually ordered this album just now. This is a must-have for rock collectors. When I checked this album out, because I havent been able to be satisfied with what I have even though I love it to the core, I really liked this album. This (and a lot of other unknown punk rock bands) reminds me of New Found Glory where the music is influentially similar and awesome.
