If you love Alex Rider, the Young James Bond or the Cherub series then this book is for you. In fact the refreshing international setting, plucky lead character and tackling of environmental issues made it better than those in my opinion. I just ordered the paperback copy for my library and can't wait to share it with my students. Looking forward to #2!
If you are a person who likes mystery, adventure, awesome girls, creepy bad-guys, and especially sharks, The Drowning Shark is the PERFECT book for you! And even if you don't like sharks as much, this STILL is the book for you because they don't always talk about sharks, there is some other stuff, too.
The Drowning Shark is a book stuffed to the gills with mystery, suspense, and the most awesome (and adorable) creature in the sea!
This book was fast-paced and fun to read. I also appreciated that it tackled environmental problems in a way that pulled me in and made me think about what actions I could take to be a change-maker, rather than being doom-and-gloom about it.
As a character, Sierra was relatable in so many ways. I remember being an idealistic, awkward teenager and how difficult it was to navigate friendships, romances and just generally figuring out my place in the world. It was really delightful to see all of that fully realized in Sierra and it made me even more invested in the overall story.
I really enjoyed The Drowning Shark and I look forward to more adventures with Sierra.
This would be great for 12-14 year Olds in particular but you'll want to remind them that they can't take on villains all by themselves. Lol. Sierra makes it seem easy! What a heroine!
