I hate to sound like a broken record but, once again Ms. Roth has delivered another fantastic book and addition to one of her many series. I had fervently hoped that "Winter Solstice" wouldn't be the last of Mandy's sexy druids and I wasn't disappointed!
Kennard O'Caha is a centuries old highland warrior who is also a wolf shifter & druid. For decades, his sole focus/mission has been to find and destroy Athol, an evil sorcerer who was once a druid until he was seduced by the darker side of the power. As the story begins, Kennard accompanied by his cousins Liam and Cillian O'Caha, have finally cornered Athol in his lair. A fierce battle begins and suddenly Athol vaporizes into a pile of ash. Liam and Cillian are glad the deed is finally done, but Kennard thinks it was a little to easy and something doesn't feel quite right to him.
Still, they decide to celebrate their victory by heading over to the lakeside town of Sandsville which is having its annual bike week which just so happens to fall on the same week as the town’s “Christmas in July” festivities. The guys head out on their motorcycles and plan to relax with plenty of beer, lots of SEX, and running the woods in shifted form!! As they arrive in town and turn a corner, Kennard feels an irresistible feeling deep inside telling him to look off to his side and that’s when he sees Maggie.
Maggie along with her best friend Maria and cook Josefina work at her tiny coffee shop in town. She spends her free time indulging in romance novels and wishing for her very own “hero” preferably with a Scottish accent. Maggie also knows that if she ever met a man like the ones in her novels, she would probably run! Maria on the other hand, is an insatiable flirt when it comes to men, but like Maggie there is something very unique about her. And Josefina, well lets just say supernatural occurrences don’t ruffle her feathers at all!
Now the townspeople refer to Maggie as “Mad Maggie the Witch” because of the strange and unusual things that always seem to happen around her. As a young child, she spoke of a snake-headed man who once saved her from one of her foster fathers, but now only appears to her in dreams. Despite the citizens feelings toward her, Maggie along with Maria stay and protect the town of Sandsville because it has become a center of paranormal activity.
As Maggie is serving one of her regulars, she hears the roar of more bikers coming into town and as she glances up, she sees Kennard. As they both lock eyes on each other, Kennard’s magik flares and he nearly loses control of his bike as his whole body responds to Maggie, his wolf wanting out to meet her. But there is something evil afoot in Sandsville and soon Kennard, Maggie, Maria, Liam, and Cillian will find themselves involved in a battle for survival that is full of laughter, love, hot sex, and some very interesting plot twists!!
I enjoyed reading Kennard and Maggie’s story, we met more of the O’Caha clan who I hope will get their own stories and the playful banter between Maria and the cousins was entertaining! I highly recommend reading A Druid of Her Own because IMO, it was definitely worth waiting for!!
A Druid of Her Own is the 4th book in the Druid series about a group of immortal sorcerers tasked with protecting humans from evil. Kennard OCaha is one of those immortals. Alive for longer than he cares to think about, Kennard and his cousins, Liam and Cillian, have been on the trail of a truly evil sorcerer for the last few decades. When they finally catch him, hoping to end his reign of terror, things are almost too easy. Determined to relax and enjoy the victory despite an uneasy sensation, Kennard and his cousins drive into town looking for food, rest and women, and not necessarily in that order. Then things get interesting.
Maggie has always been different. Orphaned at birth, going from foster parent to foster parent, tormented by strange dreams, she's always struggled to blend in. Now that she's a successful business woman, she tries hard to fly under the radar and not give the towns people more reason to think she's weird. Until of course a motorcycle riding hunk straight out of one of her favorite romance novels, complete with Scottish accent, comes to her coffee shop. But he seems to bring all kinds of trouble with him.
This was a great book. Maggie is a little bit weird and a lot feisty, with a good sense of humor. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. Kennard is the typical alpha male and has no idea how to handle Maggie's feisty nature, though it definitely turns him on. Kennard's cousin, Liam is absolutely hilarious and such a "guy" he makes you want to slap him upside the head. His twin brother Cillian is a bit less annoying, but still pretty funny. The interactions between the brothers and Maggie's best friend Maria have you laughing out loud. The story is fast paced with a good amount of action and of course a slimy bad guy. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer. But it was a fun read and I'm looking forward to the next book as I can't wait to read more about Liam, Cillian and the rest of the OCaha clan.
