Michael Joseph Ferguson is an author, ADHD life coach, public speaker, workshop facilitator, and host of the popular ADHD podcast “Adult ADHD ADD Tips and Support.” Author of the bestselling books The Drummer and the Great Mountain – a Guidebook to Transforming Adult ADD/ADHD and ADHD Time Management, Michael is a leading voice in reframing ADHD as a “neurological type” and not a disorder. He has coined the term “hunter-type” as an alternate label for ADHD, combining Thom Hartmann’s hunter-farmer hypothesis with the expression “neurological type.”

Through podcasts, online workshops, and one-on-one coaching, Michael and his partner Questa Li have built a global community based on their holistic approach to Adult ADHD.

Great insight and PRACTICAL help with ADHD and ADD struggles.
5 out of 5 stars
Great insight and PRACTICAL help with ADHD and ADD struggles.
One of the most helpful tools I've found with time management, goal setting, and creativity from an author who knows the common struggles of those who have ADHD or ADD. Considering how many books, podcasts, and youtube talks I've heard on the subject, this source is by far the easiest to build a new foundation using the STRENGTHS of a hunter-type mind to your advantage without becoming overwhelmed in the process. Highly recommend and can attest to the improvements I've had in my own life since being introduced to Michael Ferguson. Get it!

I've read a lot of books on this topic and this approach is excellent. I especially like the podcast to accompany the book because this is a deep approach where there is no "fixing" or 10 step solution...It's a lifestyle, an emphasis on understanding yourself and strengths/weaknesses. I'm still in the middle of the book and I am VERY impressed.

When my son was diagnosed with ADHD, which i knew little about, I started reading everything and listening to everything related, to try to help him. I found this book late in my search and realized that i too have ADHD. Out of all the material I have covered in the past 3-4 years, this is my favorite book and podcast on ADHD, by far. and I have a small library at this point of self help books on ADHD.
this book doesn't overwhelm me. He gets it!!!, very relatable.

I liked it a lot. Definitely helpful advice. Very good for identifying personal qualities related to “ADD/ADHD-hunter type”, good and bad. Good place to start for someone looking reign in their symptoms. You can tell the author understands the target audiences experiences and he does a good job of lifting the personal weight of the stigma that goes along with being diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. There is at least a couple things you will find helpfully or enlightening in this book if you are just starting look for coping stills and understanding. I like the podcast as well. I used it to decide if the book was worth reading. The host and author can come off a little overly nice for my taste but the advice and understanding a genuine.
This book is an honest attempt to help those looking for it.

This book was recommended to me by a Christian counselor sending I was showing behaviors of A.D.D.

I found it to be very helpful. It seemed as if I was reading my autobiography and I didn’t want to stop learning about myself. Being in my late 50s, I wish I had known these things years ago.

The author suggests A.D.D. is one of several “normal” personalities, and once one is aware of the traits, they can learn function well, without trying to “fix” it.

Example: if one is born of a particular nationality, that is not something one can change or “fix”.

The suggestions are undoubtedly necessary for a productive and fulfilling life for us "hunter types." I would highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with ADHD or ADD. Thank you, Michael, for your passion for this subject; you have made a big difference in my life and undoubtedly countless others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be recommended by medical practitioners

I am currently in the process of being diagnosed and I cannot begin to express the value this book, and associated podcast, has brought to my life. For the first time, I feel like I have clarity and understanding to the many challenges I've faced in my life. AND, more importantly, I feel excited to implement the strategies and tools Michael discusses in this book. If you have ADHD (or suspect you might), pick up this book. It's life changing.

If you have ever wondered how others manage their lives more effectively, whilst you struggle to pull it altogether, then you might want to look into ADHD.

This text is written by an author with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). His book is laid out to discuss what ADHD is and how it can be managed effectively without drugs. It's a must read! The podcasts are also excellent. Get a copy, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Later life ADHD diagnosis
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 9, 2023
This book and the excellent free podcast series that goes with it are a vital reference and basics-to-advanced problem management resource for people with ADHD. Summer 2022 I was hit by sudden widowhood and an ADHD diagnosis at almost 70. Starting this year with the author’s very reasonably priced visioning workshop, I’ve been working my way through the programme. My only criticism of the book: It’s from the USA, so as a Brit, I’ve needed to ‘translate’ culturally in places. (But that’s true of most self-help neurodiversity literature atm) Life is still tough, but this extraordinary book and the resources which accompany it have made it not just more do-able but more relaxed, creative and productive. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks amazing if you can manage to read it
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 21, 2022
Probably a great choice for an ADHDer if you are full of energy, or can pull a hyperfocus to commit yourself to reading and implementating the solutions in this book.

However, as an exhausted, overwhelmed ADHDer waiting for medication, I literally do not have the energy or motivation to read this book. I am struggling hard enough to do the basics, without reading a massive book and transforming every aspect of how I do life.

A quick flick through suggests it is packed full of useful information, but it is absolutely enormous, highly detailed, very prescriptive and suggesting you do everything in your life in (probably) a completely different way.

I hope I will reach the stage where I feel able to start making use of what is suggested - I am sure anybody (ADHD or not) would feel a million times better if they transformed their diet, fitness, organisation, communication skills, social life, careers , future visioning etc etc.

I also noticed on flicking through that there seem the usual recommendations and assumptions about having friends and family all around you, to help and motivate you. Not everyone is in this position, especially considering that lots of ADHDers are also *autistic*, and therefore not generally extroverts with large social networks.

I have given three stars as this is the best compromise I can come up with between personally finding the book completely unreadable, and acknowledging that it seems to be full of useful advice, if you are able to read it and do what it says.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book for adult ADHD I've ever found

This book is a bible for adults with ADHD that want to manage their symptoms without medication.

I use the strategies outlined in the book on a daily basis and it's been life changing. The book can be read cover to cover or just dipped in and out of for specific areas.

I use the book, have been part of one of the group coaching courses and now have 1:1 coaching with the author Michael. He knows his stuff through real life experience and that's why his advice works so well. Highly recommended!
