About the Author
Greta van der Rol loves writing action-packed adventures with a side salad of romance. Most of her work is space opera, but she has written paranormal and historical fiction. She lives not far from the coast in Queensland, Australia and enjoys photography and cooking when she isn't bent over the computer. She has a degree in history and a background in building information systems, both of which go a long way toward helping her in her writing endeavors. A delightful collection of three shorter works. Beginning with A Matter of Trust.
Author Greta van der Rol has a wonderful sense of timing. It shines through in the first story, 'A Matter of Trust'. The dialogue shines because of it and other factors, not the least of which are the richly developed characters of Princess Amira and Admiral Ul-Mellor. This author lures you into the tension of Amira's desperate attempts to escape being forced into marriage with a man of her Father's choice. The attraction between the two main characters is apparent but doesn't overwhelm the Science Fiction element of the book. No spoilers here. I enjoyed the blend of Romance and Science Fiction immensely.
The Demon's Eye
Now this 'The Demon's Eye' is SFR at its best. Krys Merkos is forced to leave her home by a worried father dealing with a civil war. He wants her somewhere safe. The Imperial warship she gains passage on has its own dangers, not the least of which is the Captain, determined to make her his, and Ben, an old flame. Throw in an attack by space pirates and the method of our heroes escape, and the lure of well written attraction between Krys and Ben and you have a short, sharp and fabulous ride.
Eye of the Mother
We are introduced to our reluctant male lead, (Brent Walker) as he leaves a noisy tavern and heads back to get his ship from space port before his time runs out. Female screams (Imperial Agent Tian Axmar) from an alley draw his attention, and so begins a marvelous journey into a world where an Interspecies war is brewing. The author pens wonderful scenes of tension, which are maintained throughout this story. The dialogues is again crisp and concise and it allows you as a reader to clearly hear the voices of the central characters.
The pacing keeps you turning pages as the danger mounts for Tian and Brent. Murders, and a race against time hold your interest perfectly. No spoilers ... you need to read this yourself. My favorite of the three stories. But they are each immensely enjoyable reading. I highly recommend this book.
