We unfortunately own two of these percolators and when the lid broke on the second one, I had to contact Electra Craft, again. They were able to provide the part, a simple stainless steel lid, for $25.00 plus shipping and handling! I'm sure their other replacement parts are overpriced as well!
We've been through many pots including professional makers designed for hotels and altho an old fashioned stove top pot makes good coffee, it takes too long and it's not as wonderful as what comes out of this maker. we use it everyday at least once or twice, and it's held up for quite awhile. There is one snafu, you MUST load the basket very carefully, because if you don't grounds find their way into the center tube and wind up in the brew. My husband is always getting grounds in the coffee, but it still tastes fabulous! I've had to replace the lid, that's been my only complaint. The knob is plastic, but after roughly 1500 pots of coffee, I can't gripe too loudly, because the pot has outlasted every other pot we've ever owned! ...Not to mention that if you truly love REAL coffee (not the drip crapola) this is the only pot there is!
We even attempted to use a paper filter above the grounds, but it still floated grounds up. It is essentially an 8 cup tea maker. I would NOT attempt to make coffee in it again. I have since returned the item to Amazon, thankfully. We are now using the Farberware 12 cup percolator and it makes coffee quite well. If you've never tried perc'd coffee, you should. I cannot drink drip coffee without gagging.
Unfortunately, Farberware's is also made in China. It appears just about all the coffee percolators are made in China. Maybe one day we'll learn how to manufacture items in our country again.
The first time I used it I realized that the warmer continues to BOIL the coffee making it bitter and burnt. It doesn't shut off (I'm not even sure if it's supposed to). Also, and THIS is the reason why I'm returning it: the coffee that comes out of this thing is weaker than a diner cup of bland coffee - the color looks just like tea and this is even when using 12 cups of coffee measurement with only 10 cups of water!!! and I use Starbucks Sumatra BOLD!!!!
This coffee maker is NOT worth it at ALL. Don't buy this. And yes, it does leave a bunch of coffee at the bottom of the pot, although I didn't really mind that.
PROS: Looks nice on your kitchen counter
CONS: Weak coffee, no automatic shut off making your coffee BOIL, very difficult to fill coffee in the awkward percolator, very time consuming to clean.

Since Dualit makes a great toaster, I assumed their percolator would be good. I was wrong. There is an excess amount of coffee grinds in the coffee even with coarse ground coffee. Read morePublished on October 25, 2005 by TokieGrl
