These mixes in the "Dubber Side" album have taken yet another step away from the original Pink Floyd album. More than just re-mixing the original "Dub Side" album, many new additions have been added... as well as a few things removed. The album opener loses the sweeping guitar that was very Gilmour-like, and replaces it with a horn section. The next song, On the Run, was one of my favorite remixes. It had less electronic treatment and received a driving reggae influenced bass line. The entire song Eclipse is rearranged, putting the female chorus out front and almost giving it a bossa-nova groove in the rhythm.
Then you have a more dubbed and electronic versions of the songs Great Gig in the Sky & Brain Damage, and a darker side of the song, Money (pardon the pun). Both Money & Us and Them add electronic baselines and backgrounds that give the songs much more atmosphere and changes their whole feel. Which brings me to what I did not like about the album.
The second version of Money (the Mad Professor Remix), as well as the song Step It Pon The Rastaman Scene (Border Crossing Remix), seemed to be just thoughtless add-ons. Adding echo effects and splicing together pieces of the songs don't really make it new. Also, I downloaded this and the sound is not as good as on "Dub Side".Read more ›
