Well as most people coming to this item’s sale page will already know; this is a great electronic musical work of art, but not only is it awesome to be able to have this on high quality vinyl, the digital download that comes with it is for the 5CD Super Deluxe version! So for less than half the price of the CD issue of the Super Deluxe you get the records of the original album plus all of the tracks that are on the 4 other CDs! Can’t do better than that!

Album is 5 stars of course, one of the best from the heydays of the electronica boom. This however is only a so-so improvement over the original cd. The mix does sound a bit different.....but there's no 5.1 & sonically I wouldn't say it's that much of an improvement. The real annoyance is that the blu-ray doesn't include any of the bonus material on the 2-disc anniversary issue. They could have easily fitted all the live, b-side, 12" version & demos that came out for this album, yet chose not to. @ almost $30 list price this makes it seem to be more of a luxury item for people who have to have top of the line everything, rather than a must have for anyone into the album.

When I first read about this monster re-issue, I wondered how much of it would I really listen to. I listened to all 5 disks of it, and love them all, what Underworld has done is combined a bunch of early versions/alternative versions and blend them all together into very listenable set. The accompanying book I can't really rave about, but high grades for the rest of the set.

Underworld's debut, Dubnobasswithmyheadman, was released in 1994. It is still regarded by many people to be one of the best techno/electronica CDs of all time. Although they have had strong follow-ups especially with Second Toughest.., this is their masterpiece. It is a very mellow CD with throbbing beats that sorta reminds me of Leftism although Underworld's flows better than Leftfield's CD. It is really hard to pick a favorite track because they are all amazing. However, track #2, MMM Skyscraper I Love You, is one that rivals Orbital's Halcyon + On + On in its beauty, as it is over 12 minutes of listening joy. If you have never bought this CD, then you need to make your next buy to be this one. You won't be disappointed.

Amazing sound quality on blu-ray audio - well worth the extra cost if your kit can play it.
Providing three copies of the 96k stereo audio - in lossless DTS and Dolby as well as straight LPCM does seem like overkill, but in no way detracts from the pleasure.
Not being a purist, I prefer letting my surround amp spread the sound around me via its 7 channel stereo mode - there is so much detail in the recording that I find it even more pleasurable to listen to that way.

This boxed set encapsulates just what the nascent rave/dance scene was all about - a blueprint for the future that incredibly managed to doff a reverential cap to the past yet was way ahead of it's time simultaneously.
The original is a timeless classic, the remix is incredible in terms of depth and space in the music, and the out takes would have been worthy of release in their own right - the breadth of ambition and understanding of the vibe of dance culture are ever-present.
Anyone who loved/loves the scene just has to own this essential collection, which is also beautifully and thoughtfully put together.
Buy it, close the curtains, select any disk, pour yourself a drink, (or whatever), and kick back and let the goods times in.
