I love the movie and am amused to see how "The Dude" has become an archetype of sorts for the "Take it Easy" approach. That aside I am also somewhat familiar with the Tao Te Ching. To see these two thrown together, I thought was going to be at best a cheesy homage to the movie. However, I was astonished to see how well the spirit of the Tao Te Ching is actually captured using the story and the characters from the film. My compliments to the Church of the Latter Day Dude for for doing an absolute bang up job.

this actually is a faithful translation of the Tao Te Ching... set in terms that are likely to be understood by another segment of the world society.

but, well, that's, just, like, my opinion, man... another Dudeist Priest

This is a re-packaging, of sorts, of the Tao Te Ching. It has one chapter of witticisms and phrases culled from the movie, "The Big Lebowski", sort of put together in ways that re-phrase in parlance of our times, the original chapter of the Tao that follows, alternatingly.

If you're a fan of the Dude, this is kind of cute, and it gave me a desire to read the original. If you're not such a fan, you might not think it's cute. Could have spent a worse 99 cents.

Considering the times we live in with such polarization, sometimes we all need to peacefully abide. 'Engaged Pluralism' and 'Moral Conversation' intertwine philosophical beliefs by taking a look at just what it takes to have your mud settle to see the clear water. Putting old philosophies and classic religious contexts together, The Church of Latter-Day Dude clearly shows there is no gender in 'Dude' nor is this the religion of the lazy. Open your mind, expand your knowledge base, grab some friends and have some good honest fun...

It's hit or miss, strikes and gutter balls, man. Read these slowly, maybe even one a day. Reading them all at once will jumble them all together and seem a bit repetitive in the Duder quoting department. While a bit redundant after a while, it's a solid idear, and it'll make a nice gift for all the little urban achievers in your life.

I bought this for my husband as part of a Dude themed Valentines Day gift. My dude abides. The dude abides. This chick abides. It all just abides. The book abides. It's just a really dude abiding kind of a book. We both enjoyed it!
