*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book*
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Very well written, excellent character development, a truly great read.
I especially connected with Nick. Absolutely hilarious but serious when things get real. Nick is a green detective who's busted his butt to work with who he considers the best detective in Detroit. Carter Avery. This very different but amazing duo team up in an incredible story filled with twists and turns, hilarious banter, action, alllll the steamy hotness (things get broken in the BEST way) and a puzzle only these two, while being an unlikely match, can figure out.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author and I'm beyond glad I did. This is a great read that leaves you begging for more. Excellent!
Beginning with Avery Carter a focused, meticulous, obsessive, no nonsense, independent, solo Detroit Police Detective you see that the darkest side of crime defines his professional demeaner. Carter is aware of dirty cases and the toll it takes on the force. Enter Nick Farzo his newly assigned partner who has worked up from a street cop and knows that creating a working-relationship with Carter will be key to his own success. However, Nick’s over reaching enthusiasm trying to prove he would be an asset to Carter and being a little bit of a loose cannon doesn’t bode well with Carter.
From their first encounter with bodies in a dumpster, uncooperative management of a strip joint, and immediate use of Nick’s impressive Glock skills, you know that the Medical Examiner’s question of “This ain’t the last set of bodies coming into county today, is it?” is the beginning of a wild ride and you cannot let go.
Add goons in suits, machismo attitudes, unusual professionally inked tattoos, a corrupt DST department, dirty cops, the inner life of strippers, mules, massive bouncers, attempted bribes, drugs to cope, blacklist assassins, upper echelon gang fights, first time adult sex, tampered evidence, illegal dance clubs, AR15s, machine pistols, gun runner art dealers, Devil’s Night, mass carnage in a pub, homemade pizza, and citizens implementing their own interpretation of law and justice. WHEW!!!!
One of the themes which runs through the story is the internal conversations each Detective has with himself. You will find yourself laughing out loud at the real ness and dry humor.
Even if Detective stories with corpses and edge of your chair angst are not your typical read, make an exception for DUE SOLDATI it is well worth it!!
