Some books have just too many twist and turns to enjoy. She does, she doesn't. The development of plot and relationship between main characters were crazy and grammatical errors were rampant. I will not be reading this author again. You can try this book and judge for yourself...however save yourself the time. Wish I could've been easier on my review, however it is what it is. The proofreader should be fired.

Action adventure mystery romance. The book description is an accurate summary of the premise. A shorter summary is that two wealthy single individuals, before unknown to each other, are thrown together without much of a chaperone, with a mystery afoot. The mystery: Where is her aunt and her aunt's servants? Where are their own servants disappearing to? Are there really ghosts about?

I found the story started really good. Characters were introduced, the mystery revealed and deepened. Mid-way through though, for my tastes, the story was less realistic than I prefer. The story moved fairly fast and had a lot of action/adventure, but some leaps of logic were required, which reduced my enjoyment of the story. To be fair, the anomalies/leaps tended to move the story forward and were explained but, well, some things were awfully convenient. For instance, even though being worried and otherwise cautious, the main characters somehow didn't check that windows were locked, and when they needed an unlocked window, wow, they conveniently found one.
I would consider this a 3 1/2 stars, and good value for money.

It was a fun story. Well, it was actually not fun in the danger sense, but fun to read, adventurous. The characters had less fun. I liked the characters, Ralph and Hester, and even the minor characters, Polly and Birdie. Ralph and Hester are distant cousins and set up by their matchmaking Aunt, who disappears with all the servants before Ralph and Hester appear at the Aunt's estate. Then the bad guys start up trouble. Good thing Ralph is a former soldier. The dog was a good addition. Useful too. Only criticism was that for a soldier he let down his guard at night. Knowing there was danger afoot, why not keep a watch. Anyway, that is why you have a dog.

I hope to read more of her work. Editing could have been cleaner but for the price, really no major complaints. The writing was very good.

While the story is entertaining and the characters well developed, the grammatical and spelling errors are simply appalling! I cannot believe this is an example of Amazon's quality. Truly disappointing. For that reason I cannot give it more than 2 stars.

This is the first book of this author's that I've read, and it needs a bit of polishing. I am always distracted by typos, grammatical errors, punctuation errors and even typeset problems, all of which are present in this book. The plot was interesting, very convoluted and cold blooded. I felt that didn't really get into the emotions of the protagonists, I found it hard to believe that they fell in love, especially Hester. There are some good bones here, I just didn't feel that the story reached it's full potential.
Heat factor mild.
