About the Author
Anna Harrington fell in love with historical romances--and all those dashing Regency heroes--while living in London, where she studied literature and theatre. She loves to travel, fly airplanes, and hike, and when she's not busy writing my next novel, she can usually be found in her garden, fussing over her roses. She loves to hear from readers and can be reached at:

The author does a fantastic job of creating characters with depth and substance, as well as ones that are both relatable and slightly flawed. The chemistry between the hero and heroine is very well done, the tension is palpable to the reader from the first interaction! The guardian/ward story line, with the added surprise that our hero thought he was gaining a small child as a ward, is one of my favorite story lines in this genre and the author does not disappoint. There is just enough stubbornness and mistrust between our hero and heroine so that there is some conflict and interest, but not enough that it becomes frustrating or unbelievable for the reader.
The story did drag on just a tiny bit longer than I was expecting, but that is not really a bad thing since I didn't want the book to end! Both the hero and heroine have good reasons for why they are acting the way they are, the author does a great job in explaining their backgrounds and reasoning for things, so the stubbornness in admitting their feelings for one another seems justified, and the way they both try to fight, unsuccessfully, against their love is really entertaining to read.
I would highly recommend this book for fans of Regency era romance. The hero is the perfect combination of tough (but kind), sexy, and complicated (but lovable) and the heroine is strong and independent, but also has to face issues of her own.
Kate Benton knows her father for what he is…a drunk and a lousy gambler. After years of him taking everything possible to sell she’s at her wit’s end trying to figure out how to help Brambly House survive. Even knowing what her father is does not prepare her for the lofty Duke who has come to declare he now owns her home and is her guardian.
Surprise is too mild a word to describe Edward’s reaction when he learns his charge is not some young girl he can gift a doll, pat on the head then be on his way but a fully grown beautiful woman who challenges him at every turn. The same can be said for Kate when she learns her home and her life have been gambled away to this emotionless man. But there are even worse things that Kate does not realize her father is capable of.
As days turn into weeks, Kate catches glimpses of the real Edward; and Edward realizes his heart may not be as closed off as he thought. When disaster strikes can they save each other.
WONDERFUL story written by Anna Harrington. The first in her THE SECRET LIFE OF SCOUNDRELS series is also the first story I have read by Ms. Harrington and I am completely hooked. Her writing style has the characters leaping from the page and engages every emotion. A definite must read!
This regency romance is very well written, you will find many reviews that goes into detail about the actual story, so I will not bore you with those details. The author stays true to the time period, taking little, if any, liberties with the social laws of the time. I found the characters and the storyline believable and enduring. The author was able to evoke emotion within me, the reader, from feeling longing, falling in love, having disappointed hopes, and satisfaction with the big HEA ending.
If you like Nicole Jordan, Kat Martin or even Sophie Jordan, (I do!!!), I think you will love Anna Harrington too!
