This movie is a jumble of "Bad Acting, Special Effects, and Plot." I found myself wishing for something else to watch 5 minutes into it and writing this review within 10 minutes of the movie playing. This is nothing more than an attempt to cash in on "The Dune" franchise with something thrown together in haste. Go watch some old Bugs Bunny Cartoons as they have much more entertainment value than this trash!
"Mockbusters" are tremendously terrible, low-budget films that are made to exploit the publicity of a big studio film being released at the same time. They have very similar plots with a similar name and artwork. Back in the days of actual video stores, their intent was to trick people into renting them instead of the real blockbuster movie. This film is exploiting the remake of Dune that was also released this year. Don't fall for it.
Saw the title, thought it was related to DUNE! Not really even close. Saw the cover art! Not like the movie, more like the epic video game cover art of the 70's and 80's and the game looks nothing like it. So, this was a bit of fun, you are drawn in the have to use your imagination sometimes or not. Which actually was pretty awesome. Its pretty easy to sit back and let your mind wander without the stress of anything actually having to make sense. The Humanoid Robot has a pot belly and a face mask which is always smushed all wrong randomly throughout. The worms will be a bit of nostalgia for monster fans, that was a hoot. The lighting was great in some areas, but he use of special effects was fun. Yes, Ed Woods Plan 9 is a classic but this work of art is now my new favorite big-budget Sci-Fi movie classic. Ed Wood was ahead of his time and I like to think he would be impressed by Dune Worlds. 🤣 Think about how he kitbashed film reels and effects, he'd be green with envy. I watched the movie entire time sober, often wondering how other people might enjoy it differently. Not mincing words here, this movie has got that psychedelic trippy sci fi feel with chaotic disjointed non-linear flow to it. The plot is simple and playfully repetitive in pushing the viewer into a non-linear experience which while slightly paranormal, actually scratches into time traveling dimensional evolution in a way. The music is modern electronic, kind of like trance dubstep which helps roll things along, in all actuality everything seems to be in place as the director intended and I found it enjoyable. I respect the actresses and actors for their efforts to bring Dune Worlds to life. Thinking back, it's got some funny parts and then some other parts that are more serious. Do yourself a favor, watch in one sitting no distractions!🤣 The only bad thing I can say is I was really disapointed the dead Space Captain never returned, Though the acting space Captain was fun, it's like shes the main character actually. So you want to pay attention to what she says and does to follow along. Hope they make more! It really captures the spirit of trying something new. 😃
I couldn't even make it through to ten minutes. This low budget inconsistent attempt at a movie isn't taken seriously by anyone but the video effects person. I haven't seen aluminum foil and black velvet curtain walls in sci-fi since Electra woman and Dyna Girl. common man. I could go on about the acting, directing, lighting, costumes, dialog, and production but I'll just stop here. You already get the idea.
If you ever wondered what you would get if you did a remake of Dune, but without a competent director, competent actors, or competent writers, you can find out by watching this movie. If you're not curious enough about that to spend 66 minutes of your life answering that question, I'd recommend that you watch something else. Pretty much anything else, actually.
I was hoping for a spoof of Dune, what with the desert planet and giant worms attracted by noise to mining equipment for a mind-altering mineral. Nope, just garbage and a lot of early 60s effects. Cool Robot though, he really brings it all together!
Really, truly unbelievably worse than awful. Poor acting by one or two, worse than poor by the rest. Sound effects were horrible, visual effects stupid & juvenile, etc. sigh. I get low-budget flics, I root for them. Not this one, sorry.
