Game is actually pretty good. It has some flaws but honestly what game doesn't? Don't listen to the whiny people saying the game is bad. Play and judge for yourself. Im really enjoying it.

I'm only giving this a 3 star because it was $40 and it has so much potential. But too many glitches make the gameplay more of a chore than fun sometimes.

Overall, a fun co-op hack & slash that could certainly be improved but ultimately didn't disappoint.
Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2021Platform: Xbox Series X
I'm having a ton of fun personally. I guess I didn't have the highest expectations going in (I try to do that as much as I can with things nowadays, always end up happier than a lot of other people I notice.) so I'm not all that disappointed.
There's been a few bugs I've noticed, nothing that can't be fixed in patch though. Combat is a little heavy but once I got used to it I grew to like it actually. Playing on PC with a controller and maxed out framerate and sensitivity is a lot of fun. I think if they're going to do anything besides bug fixing in future patches, making combat a little more fluid would be nice (increasing certain attack speeds, decreasing the amount characters get stunned and knocked down, for example) -- but it's not horrible. I'll get flamed for this, but whatever, Souls games for example have slow combat and get zero flack for it. I realize those games are for a certain demographic that loves them, but it's funny hearing people say this combat is clunky and unplayable when I thought the same thing about Sekiro and would get called crazy. The combat in this game could be improved sure, but people saying it's awful and game breaking are being incredibly dramatic. I do kinda wish there were customizable characters, that doesn't effect gameplay, but it'd be nice. The character selection is pretty good though so it is what it is.
Also, I know it's D&D, but anyone who came into this expecting a huge elaborate plot wasn't paying attention to the game AT ALL until today I guess. This wasn't supposed to be Dark Alliance 3, it was supposed to be (as others in this thread have said) effectively a Vermintide or L4D type of arcade-y game. There's plenty of "real" D&D games out there if you want to play them. Dark Alliance just got remastered, as did Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate a few years ago. Speaking of, Baldur's Gate 3 is coming out soon and is already in a playable early access state as well. You also have Neverwinter (the MMO) and D&D: Online (which is somehow still kicking?) too if that's your thing. Those are just the actual D&D licensed games too, you have a ton of really good Great Value versions like Divinity: Original Sin too. Or you know, you could just play real D&D? For a hack & slash co-op game I wasn't expecting anything more than I got, really. It serves its purpose quite well.
Playing solo wasn't as hard as a lot of the YouTube "reviewers" mentioned? Even IGN said playing the game solo was nearly impossible and should not be attempted. I didn't find it that hard at all to be honest lol. I did play a few levels co-op with my girlfriend tonight though and we both thought it was one of the smoother co-op experiences we've had in a while. It's easy for anyone to sit down and play, doesn't require a ton of skill but on the higher difficulties does require a bit of teamwork and strategy which is nice, and levels don't seem to drag (and have really nice level and sound design which helps).
All this said though, it's not a super amazing game. Definitely could be improved in some areas and I did run into a few bugs but I didn't expect that much out of it and it wasn't a massive disappointment for me. Putting this anywhere within the realm of Cyberpunk 2077 for example is just dumb, this game was never supposed to be that ambitious lol. I'd probably give it a 6.5 right now, after bug fixes which will inevitably come maybe a 7, and with friends and a few drinks it could be an 8.
Outrage culture is at a peak today. The game has issues but some of the "reviews" I've been seeing are ridiculous. I've noticed the Steam review rating has already gone from "Mostly Negative" to "Mixed" as the people who played for 0.2 hours and just wrote "unplayable" are having their reviews next to others who actually played the game for the duration of the day and for better or worse formed an educated opinion. Time will tell if the game gets better, but for now I'm not going to act like I was expecting it to be anything more than I got, I'm going to have fun and hope the devs maintain what they've built which afaik they have every intention to do as of right now.

If you like Dungeons and Dragons or even if you're a fan of Baldur's Gate you should probably skip this game. I could care less about both of them and I definitely should've skipped this title. This game makes me feel like I am supposed to know every creature and faction from the first cutscene. I played about 6 hours of this game and never figured out what was going on in the story.
Dungeons and Dragons is about creating your own fun and not following a linear story. This game has none of that either. The game plays just fine I didn't run into any real issues playing on the Series X. Playing solo however made this a slog to get through. Seriously this game is boring. That is the biggest sin of them all. The story can be nonsense if the gameplay is fun. When neither is fun then you just have a bad game on your hands. With friend you might get some enjoyment, but even that I can see you just plowing through just to complete the title after awhile. What makes the game so boring it is just run in a battle the same 10 enemies over and over in this hallway basically. Even when you fight a boss he is just a generic enemy maybe with a slightly different skin on.
The game looks fine. I am told on the Xbox One S the game will have a lot of texture issues with them constantly popping in and out. It will also have framerate issues. Again I am not sure just due to the fact I had none of these. Just be prepared if you are playing on a last gen console.
Overall this is a very skippable title. Even if you have Game Pass there is no real reason to check it out unless you have that one friend who won't leave you alone about playing it with him.

This is the most infuriating game I’ve played since “E.T.” on the Atari 2600 when I was a kid. Who play tested this? I can’t fathom the logic in having a customer spend 45 minutes working through a level, then force them to start it all over again when they have to stop gaming. It's infuriating. There's no inter-level save feature. You get checkpoints, but you can't resume gaming from that point another day.
And the worst is when you get to the final boss battle of the level, and you keep re-spawning to fight and die. It's the worst. And you're forced to go through the same levels three times each in order to level up enough to not die every 10 seconds.
Who playtested this? I have no idea, but they should find a new line of work.
