Give the Gift of Adventure
With this gift set and a handful of dice, a gamer has everything they need for a lifetime of Dungeons & Dragons role-playing.
In Dungeons & Dragons, a group of friends coauthor their own legend. They create characters and play their roles in a story, rolling dice and navigating maps as they unfold a tale as limitless as their imagination.
All the books they need to do so are in this gift set. Inside are foil cover editions of the three main Dungeons & Dragons books—the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual—plus a Dungeon Master’s Screen, also with foil treatment.
The Player’s Handbook is the essential reference for every Dungeons & Dragons roleplayer. It contains rules for character creation and advancement, backgrounds and skills, exploration and combat, equipment, spells, and much more.
Dungeon Master’s Guide
The Dungeon Master’s Guide teaches how to run D&D adventures for the other players how to give them monsters to fight, mysteries to solve, and fantasy worlds to explore.
The Monster Manual allows the Dungeon Master (the game’s narrator) to fill Dungeons & Dragons games with monsters—to populate the game with pesky goblins and mighty dragons for players to battle or beguile, outwit or outrun.
Dungeon Master’s Screen
The Dungeon Master’s Screen helps the Dungeon Master (the game’s narrator) keep die rolls and notes hidden from players. Plus, the inside is filled with at-a-glance references for the most relevant and commonly used in game information to help keep the game running smoothly.
An innovator in providing contemporary fantasy entertainment, Dungeons & Dragons is the wellspring for the entire modern game industry, digital as well as tabletop. Fifth edition D&D draws from every prior edition to create a universally compelling play experience, and exemplifies the true spirit of a game that holds captive the hearts and minds of millions of players worldwide. The core rulebook series consists of three books: the Player’s Handbook, the Monster Manual, and the Dungeon Master’s Guide.

Nor do you get any special artwork found on limited edition printings. You do get foil copies of the normal covers. I can understand some folks being underwhelmed by these, but they are definitely better than the basic books I have held.
Print quality seems very good. Through out the books there is full color artwork. Tables and layout make this a very readable edition.
The box and screen also are of good quality. I expect them to last for a good while.
For good reviews of the information inside I suggest you reference the individual books. Many find 5E to be the best ever edition. I will let you judge for yourself.
Bottom line: Do you "need" this edition? Not really. But, this three book foil edition is a nice upgrade from the normal mass printing if you have a few extra dollars to treat yourself.
The bundle is nicely designed. Do consider other reviewers when they recommend checking in between the sheets as much as for the exteriors in the chance the items may have suffered abnormal smudges or marks from assembly or packing accidents before the application of the shrink-wrap. Mine came with a few dents INSIDE the case and shrink-wrap (Meaning a book was placed with the defects during manufacturer quality control, and not necessarily caused from shipping), along with an odd pinch-like fold in the upper center near a corner on one side of the hard case as if someone accidentally misplaced a portion of the black dragon layer-sticker, leaving a pinch fold from extra material.
Have fun taking risks, learn at your paces, be patient for other people, and remember that the book offers guidelines, not solidly rigid rules. Do what is fair and most fun for everyone in this updated tenth edition. I wish you all excitement in your adventures, and may they lead to growth, resilient friendships, lessons, and fond memories.
A note on the finish:
I bought a standalone PH the same week I purchased this set. The separate PH has a much glossier finish on the outside of the book and a better texture on the cover. My first reaction was that the set was a cheaper print, but if you had a glossy finish on the set books it would make them MUCH more difficult to get in and out of the case they come in. Food for thought. If you want a shiny gloss, buy the books separately.
Top international reviews
The slip case is matt black with a glossy black D&D "&" symbol and the words Dungeons & Dragons in white with red underline on both sides, the blurb on the back of the box is a loose sheet that's not attached.
It's a beautiful boxed set. If you can pick this up for a similar price to the three separate books and the screen, then it's a no brainer. Buy, buy, buy! Whether or not it's worth more than that, well, that just depends on how much you want foil covers and a slip case.
It should be noted that these are NOT the alternate art covers. They are the standard art covers with a lovely shiny foil effect.
As somebody who owned none of the rulebooks or DM screen, this is a bargain compared to the cost of buying it all individually, plus it all comes in a nice looking display box. The price of the books does still make me shake my head a little, but the convenience of having them and presentation of them at least leaves them as a nice collection to my bookshelf that will actually be used fairly regularly.
I would say that if you have none of the books and want to buy them, this is definitely the option for you since (as of writing this) it is, as I said, cheaper than buying it all individually. If you already own one or two items from this boxset, I would look at buying the remaining items individually since the box and foil covers really aren't worth doubling up on books you already have.
The books I received were in perfect condition and are the quality product you'd expect from WotC.
I was a D&D player and GM back in the 1980s but not since then, and I wanted to start again so these books cover pretty much everything I'll need to approach the new edition of the game. Not everyone wants to be a GM, of course, but for those who do this is an excellent value set.
They are quite detailed so I think someone who wants to DM for the first time might be better off with a starter pack and as a player you shouldn't really need these initially. There are websites to help you build characters or pre made ones in the starter packs. Ask whomever is running your game :)
Sadly the quality on one of the books is poor. About 50 pages are glued together on the front edge, and for an expensive item quality should be better. The other books look good and seem good quality.
I tried to talk to Amazon but options are very limited and I am only offered a return for replacement.
The DMs Screen has majority of rules that you would need to read on the fly and the front it cool.
I think you could easily save money buying everything separately though and so some items like character sheets (not just one in the player manual), set of dice etc. would of been a nice extra inclusion.
New to DnD so for a noob such as myself this has been great for getting my mind around the base game.
These books exceeded my expectations a LOT . the case was a beautiful dark leather feel with matching printing and amazing red foil . I would recommend this as a perfect gift for any d&d fan. the books had much more content than I expected and have amazing hand drawn illustrations with very easy to understand instructions . I think this game is perfect to play with family , and friends over zoom or skype during the lockdown . overall an amazing bundle, perfect for imaginative people, as they say on the packaging , it really is " THE WORLDS GREATEST ROLE-PLAYING GAME . "
For a group of totally new people you may want to look at the starter or essentials kit but if your coming back to the game this is the place to start
I'm so glad I did, the cover art is amazing anyway, but something about them being foil covered just makes them even more outstanding. The slip cover is solid and feels durable, will look great on my book shelf with all my other nerdy books!
As for the books themselves they are packed with not just rules, but plenty of flavour as well! Very much looking forward to reading through the Monster Manual and learning a bit more about the monsters of the universe.
11/10, would recommend
