June 10, 2013 Update - Well, this great product is officially dead. There will be no more new games for it and I've even heard rumors that the company has gone out of business. It's a shame. I really enjoyed it. I still absolutely hate trying to play a FPS game on the iPad using touch controls. These guys were on to something and they blew it.
So, you can buy this if you want. It's so cheap now. But the list of games you see are all you're gonna get. MC4 will NEVER work with this controller.
I'm going to take away a star from my review just because of how poorly they managed this product.

Jan. 29, 2013 Update - The official website for this product says that support for Modern Combat 4 is coming soon!

Original review:
I am not, nor have I ever been, a hardcore gamer. I've played PC games and owned some consoles in the past, but gaming is not my #1 hobby. When I have time, I like to play a game here and there but just don't have hours and hours of time to sit in front of a TV and play on a console. This is why the great quality games that are coming out for the iPad have been great for me. If I have an extra 10 minutes, I can grab it and play for a while no matter where I am.

My one complaint is that I found controls for first-person shooters to be very difficult to master. Simply put, I hated the interface every time I tried it. I need to feel the controls and buttons with my hands.

The Duo Gamer totally fixes this problem. The controls are laid out like your standard console controller and it's very easy to use. Setup is a snap. Just pair it with Bluetooth and the games immediately recognize the controller.

You'll see in some older reviews that Modern Combat 3 does not work with the Duo Gamer.

I sent an email to duo games to see if gameloft was continuing to add games and this was the response i got...

Hello,

Unfortunately, due to revised production schedules, we will not be adding any more titles to the collection of games that are compatible with the Duo Gamer controller. The eight compatible titles are Asphalt 7: Heat, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, Order & Chaos Online, Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front, N.O.V.A. 3 - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, NFL Pro 2013, Wild Blood, and Real Soccer 2013. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will still enjoy using your Duo Gamer with all the amazing titles listed above.

Best,
Natalie

If you don't play the specific few games that this works for, then there is no reason to purchase this. I knew that going into it, but thought it could be a cheap, fun controller to play some cheesy games. Either the controller or the iPad Mini 2 was lagging with the game. I'm leaning towards the controller.

If you want to test it out, $6 isn't bad. Personally, I didn't enjoy the interface, functionality, and ended up giving it away within a week.

I'd probably be up upset too, if I'd laid out eighty bucks for this gizmo, but for seven bucks? All the same, so far I've found it to be worth that price point, especially if you're like me and happen to own just a couple of the games that it's compatible with. I happen to own four of them, so it only cost me about a buck & a half per compatible game. The quality is surprisingly good, with a responsive "touch" and "feel", as you'd expect for a device that originally sold for around eighty bucks! It's no X-box Controller, but overall, I'm happy. Don't let the naysayers keep you from using this fun product, at what's truly a bargain price!

Got this for about $9 on sale. I figured, even with 7 games officially supported, and really only 2 worth using this with (N.O.V.A. 3 and Modern Combat 3), it would be worth it. Well, it is. Sort of. The controller feels surprisingly good in hands considering the boxy, non-ergonomic design. The rubberized analog sticks feel very comfortable to use for extended periods of time (e.g. 2-3 hrs of continuous play). The controller is good at power management. It automatically goes to sleep after a brief period of inactivity (~5 min) and also if you turn off Bluetooth in iOS settings.

I would've given this a full 5 stars if not for the flimsy shoulder button design. A couple weeks in, primarily playing N.O.V.A. 3 multiplayer, the right shoulder button (used for firing weapons) has lost its 'clickiness' and now feels mushy, giving no feedback as to whether it's pressed or not, and occasionally sticking (making guns fire endlessly in game). At sub $10 (I see it is now further down to ~$6), I am not too disappointed. I figure I can just get another one when this one completely gives out, without hurting my wallet. Still, it is something worth to consider.

Pros:
-small enough to be portable (disregarding the included stand) but not too small to be uncomfortable to hold
-excellent button response times
-rubberized analog sticks feel great
-good battery life (~10 hrs active use on fresh batteries)
-good at power saving when not in use
-included sturdy stand (can be used with pretty much any other tablet/smartphone)

Cons:
-shoulder buttons (used for firing/aim assist) are not durable.
- top corners a bit sharp and uncomfortable

Other Thoughts:
Know what to expect from this product.
