Bright white. Easy to build - we laid ours flat on a carpeted floor to take advantage of the straight edge of the wall to ensure it came out square. The carpet also aided when we wanted to turn it over. To ensure the caps stayed on the top, we added a bit of pipe cement.
Update in late August: The arbor is covered in purple clematis and is gorgeous. We've had a couple of strong windstorms and the arbor hasn't moved or shown signs of wear and tear.
For installation, we had to use a special glue for the white tips (I forget what it was), buy a bag of cement and 3 wood posts for support.
Day 1: We measured and figured out the positioning
Day 2: Bought supplies from Home Depot/Lowes
Day 3: We dug 3 holes, placed the posts and filled with cement
Day 4: TBD, will update with pics!
As for assembly, I am a 70 year woman and had no problems with it, just make sure you have it all snug and square before you put in the screws and you will be good to go. I see this lasting a long long time. And the view is so much better.
You'll need 2 people (probably) to assemble this. The horizontal pieces slide into the side pieces, and the vertical pieces slide into the horizontals, but nothing locks or snaps together, so you'll either have to slide them together very deftly to keep from moving the pieces out of alignment, or have one or more people holding the sides toward each other while to slide the pieces together. Also, make sure the pilot holes for the screws are all facing the same side as you slide everything together (there's no mention of this in the instructions).
Once I got everything screwed together and installed, it looks very nice.
Luckily, my mother was at my house, and helped me put this together. I don't know if I could have done it by myself because there are so many parts that slide so easily back and forth. Also, there weren't enough screw holes and some holes on the ends were not in the right spot, so they did not catch the intended parts. I ended up getting some more screws and put some more in to help hold it together. This was necessary to move it without poles sliding everywhere, and it makes it more sturdy for outside use. If you get some sharp screws, you can screw them in with an electric screwdriver, without drilling pilot holes.
I would have given it 5 stars if the directions were better, and if the manufacturer had provided more screws
